Darn it, the boards still won't let me respond to polls!!!

Sigh. Put me down for "Yes, and I'm an old-school gamer." I really like just about everything I've heard about the new ranger. Heck, I may even play one.

(Not that I hated the original 3E ranger. I didn't think it was "broken," like so many people. But I also didn't find it very interesting. This one, I do.)

Full BAB, can use all weapons, a few bonus feats: Fighter
d8 Hit points, divine spells, Woodland Stride, Animal Companion: Druid
Lots of skill points, Evasion: Rogue

Everything together, plus bonuses against certain enemies: RANGER.

Awesome.

Edit: Oh, and chalk me up as another "Old School" gamer who's played every incarnation of Ranger since 1E. This one's the best.

Clarification: best official ranger yet or best ranger yet period?

I think it's the best official ranger yet, but there hasn't been an official ranger without spells, so it beats the dual-wielders by default.

I LOVE The added stealth/sneaky abilities, and the jack down of hit dice. The ranger's now going to be more of a wilderness rogue or a Druid/Fighter....a good change, IMHO. :)

I voted "yes" to the question in your first post, not the subject line.

I'l always have a soft spot for the 1e ranger, but the 3.5 ranger looks fun, flavorful, and powerful. I'll know more when I get a chance to test-drive one.

(Sudden mental image: walking into a showroom full of costumes & armor. Salesman approaches. "Can I help you?" "Yes, I'd like to try out the latest ranger." "Right this way, sir, over on this rack. You can go hunt orc in the woods out back. Come back whenever you're ready. You're going to love this model!")

So, which question should be answered: Best Ranger to date or do we like it? I like the ranger, but I don't think it's the best one to date.

Hmm, I think it's better than the 2e Ranger and the 3e Ranger, and pretty much every d20 Ranger that's been posted or included in books I've purchased; given no experience with the 1e version (or an OD&D version, if there was such a thing), I'd have to say that it's the best D&D Ranger. On the other hand, the WoT Woodsman is really the best example of the kind of character I want a Ranger to be.

The new Ranger looks great, although I still miss the 1E's Giant-class bonus and MU spells. *sigh*

I was already planning on playing a Ranger when I join my group's 3e game, and with the preview of the 3.5 Ranger I'm even more excited about that decision.
