Revised Ranger: Yup, time for a poll

Do you think the Revised Ranger is the best Ranger yet?

  • Yes, and I'm an "Old School" gamer

    Votes: 189 74.7%
  • No, and I'm an "Old School" gamer

    Votes: 36 14.2%
  • Yes, and I'm a newbie who started with 3E

    Votes: 26 10.3%
  • No, and I'm a newbie who started with 3E

    Votes: 2 0.8%

I don't know how to vote in this poll, as I haven't seen a 3.5 ranger yet. All I've seen is some crappy alt-rogue using the disguise skill to masquerade as a ranger.

Hmm...well I didnt vote as I dont consider myself "old school" or a "newbie". However, since I think 3e/3er is the best incarnation of the game thus far, I feel that this version of the ranger is probably going to be the most interesting and enjoyable yet.

I voted old school and no.

In addition to defining what a Ranger is in D&D, the original AD&D Ranger (adapted from the Strategic Review article) will forever be my favorite.

Just out of curiosity, how would you define "old school"?

I'm figuring when I answered the question, "old school" referred to 2nd edition and before then ...

I think it's the best official ranger yet, but there hasn't been an official ranger without spells, so it beats the dual-wielders by default.

Of course, and for the same reason as you havn't seen an official alt. rogue without sneak attack or an official alt. paladin without lay on hands. WotC don't do official alts. (Well, except when errating or revising their stuff.)

However, the most official you may find is in Rokugan, where they say that most rangers, except those from one clan and the Shinomen naga rangers, don't cast spells. Instead, they get one bonus feat at levels 4, 8, 11 and 14.
