Ring of the Fey Lord (DM:Atanatotatos, Judge:Lord Sessadore)Up:Lorik, etc.

Ikni stands and, knowing that her magic will call the dragon's attention to her, moves to get as far away from her friends as possible.

No one is more surprised than Rhole, when he bravely and successfully elbows the panther as it rushes Derien. The bard has been roughed up badly, however, and he focuses his music to cloak himself with sonic waves powerful enough to slightly repulse any attacks.

Rock veers invisibly around the dragon, to hover at its master’s side.

Haruka attempts to blink her vision back into working order. When the world suddenly becomes visible around her, she realizes that she has wandered off a bit from the group. Considering the breath weapon of the dragon, she does not see this as a problem.

Ironheart lies in the mud, not moving. Not even breathing. Wait, does he breathe at the best of times?

"No, don't get th - urk!" Something about the sudden, shocking pain and the taste of dirt clears Derien's head, but can it possibly be in time?

The mists surrounding the dragon again shield the panther from view, it is once again noticed as it launches itself at Ikni. She doesn't see the enemy, just feels the pain as it bites her shoulder, sending her spinning to the ground.

The dragon ignores Ikni and steps towards the cleric, its teeth chomping down on Derien's neck, but Ikni's shield prevents the teeth from digging in too deep. With a roar of anger, the dragon flings Derien at its feet.

Dragon - Shifts 1 square north - bites Derien - vs ac; dmg (1d20 8=28, 2d6-2=8) crits for 10, knocking you unconscious...oh wait, Ikni to the rescue, only take 2 damage, but slides you to current spot... pathetic crit for 2 dmg :.-(. I guess it won't be ignoring the mark anymore

Panther - charges Ikni - vs ac; dmg (1d20 10=26, 2d6 4=11) hits for 11 and you're prone

Those in the water, please make an Athletics DC 18 roll on your turn, else you are pushed 3 squares to the west.

Rhole stumbles blindly away from the dragon and back to where he can hear the wood woad creaking in agony. His fingers fumble after the potion he saw dangling from a branch, and the gnome jams it into what amounts to Ironheart’s “mouth”.

“"You should protect nature," my Ma used to say, "Instead of making it combust with that infernal noise!" Never thought I’d be watering trees like this, though.”

“Guess there’s a first for everything, like fomorians crowd-surfing into your face during a show.”

Rock takes over while its master is unable to play, strumming a low-frequency bridge until the Great Ultra-Intense Thundering Audio Ripper is back in action.

“Rise and sprout, tree dude!” Rhole calls out when Ironheart stirs. “The cat and dragon is eating the elf, and while that makes for a nice backdrop to the stage, we could really use a hand or branch with the crowd control!”

I really don't know what to do here... Ikni's mark is more powerful than mine, so I think he should keep it on the dragon. On the other hand, I really need to hit the dragon because I need more hp. The dragon's breath recharged last turn, and he's clearly going to breathe south to hit both Ikni and Darien, which would be very bad because it wouldn't trigger Ikni's mark. So, I could charge to R15 (I need to spend a move action to stand and then charge if I want to hit), and mark it so that breathing on Darien would trigger my mark instead. Then if it breathes on me, it only catches me, Rock and Rhole. Or I could charge the panther and knock it back, so that Ikni can stand and then circle around to the other side so that if the dragon attacks him it can't get anyone else. But then I'll only have 10 hp left instead of 15. (But 15 isn't really enough to be comfortable either if I'm drawing attacks.)

Thoughts?

[sblock=ooc]I'm scratching my head, too.

We needs Derien to get the heck out of there. If he drops, we might as well surrender. Actually getting him out of there, on the other hand, is a challenge. I'm not sure how to do that.

I'm torn between trying to focus on the panther, and trying to pound on the dragon in the hopes of healing. I'm leaning towards wanting to get rid of the panther. It's putting up enough damage that if we ignore it, we're likely to drop before we can put much of a dent in the dragon.

Ikni has her potion still, and has a close attack that targets only enemies, so she's not terribly bothered by blindness (except for granting CA). If she weren't prone, I'd shift and use it on both the panther and dragon. Given that she is prone, though, I'm tempted to just stand and drink a potion this turn.

Idea 1: Ironheart charges to R15, hits the dragon, marks it, and pushes it north or NW. Then Derien can stand up and move away out of breath range without provoking, and still has a minor action to sustain. Ikni stands, marks the panther, and goes total defense. Hopefully (60% chance) she saves against blindness. If r1 is kind to us, the dragon will attack Ironheart and the panther will attack Ikni. Ironheart should survive for one round, at least. Ikni only survives on a miss, but there's a decent chance of that. Better than 50/50, if I've counted right. She will use her daily if hit, it's an interrupt which probably won't kill the panther but should at least soften it up. Her mark stays active while unconscious (though obviously she can't reduce damage then), so there's that. Rhole can play potion fairy again, or leave Ikni for a round or two if another opportunity presents itself. Hopefully Haruka and Derien can drop the panther before it puts anyone besides Ikni down.

Idea 2: Everyone piles on the panther. Ikni stands and hits him. Ironheart charges him. Derien stands and shifts, maybe getting cover from a party member. We still probably won't drop the panther this round, but very likely next round... unless the dragon hits us all with its breath weapon first. Which it probably will.

On the whole, I think I like Idea 1 better. Thoughts?

[sblock=Saving my Bacon]Getting me away from the dragon won't help, I don't think; it can fly after me wherever I go. On the other hand, I have a reasonable shot of surviving if it breathes on me: it has to hit my Will of 19 (50/50), then roll 9 or better on 2d6 (~28%). So if I get breathed on, I have about six chances in seven of staying awake. Same odds for a claw attack, except a bit better as its to-hit bonus is one less.

On the other hand, if the panther gets to charge me I'm probably boned; my odds of avoiding its attack are less than even and if it connects, I'm done. I don't think there's anywhere I can go in 7 squares that's out of move+charge range, either.

So here's an idea, and you guys tell me if it's crazy. As a minor action, I sustain Astral Condemnation. Then I Life Transference Ikni, giving her 18 hp and knocking myself unconscious. After the monsters go, she wakes me up with her potion in time to sustain Astral Condemnation again. I don't have my books in front of me, so I can't tell if sustaining works that way (somebody please check on that!), but if it does it might buy us a turn in which to...I don't know, do something. ETA: if this plan is legal, we may be able to take it a step further: instead of LTing right away, I ready an action to do so when I'm attacked, forcing one of our enemies to burn an action in a way that includes me. But I don't know if readied actions work that way, either.

Ikni's mark is much better on the panther than the dragon, as it has no multi-target capability and will have a hard time charging her without drawing AoOs. Once I'm down, Ikni and the panther square off and everyone else beats on the dragon.[/sblock]

Ok, I think I should mark and push the dragon - if it tries to follow you I can use Warden's Grasp to slow it.

No, wait. I can't do that on a move - only if it attacks you. Which is no good, argh. Ok, if I push it away from you so you can run, *and* I stay adjacent to it, then I get an OA if it tries to chase you, in which case I can slow it with Sudden Roots - if I hit. Except if I push it, I can't shift to follow, so I won't be adjacent.

If I *don't* follow it, you can stand and shift, and then it just shifts away from me and attacks you (or doesn't bother to shift - it has Reach 2, right?) Then I can either attack it as an interrupt, which is useless since I won't disable it so it still gets its attack, or I slow it as a reaction, which lets you get away next turn if you survive, which you won't. Also useless.

If I attack the panther, we all get hit with Prismatic Breath again, which will kill Ikni but *probably* not the rest of us. Unless either he drinks his potion now, or you use Life Transference. Or he shifts to T12 and attacks the dragon. Argh.

I don't like the Life Transference plan - it's risky since if something prevents you from being revived, we lose, and it makes Rhole or somebody waste an action pouring potions into you when you could be attacking. I tihnk the best idea is for everybody to just beat on the dragon this turn to get hp back, have Ikni transfer his mark to the panther since it doesn't have multi-attacks, and hope we survive the next round of prismatic breath. (Maybe Ikni should even drink the potion now to ensure it.) Then next round we hopefully won't start prone, so we'll have enough mobility to pile on the panther and also get out of the dragon's way.

[sblock=IOC]Ikni has to survive too; her damage prevention is as important as mine. If we leave her at 4 hp the dragon's breath will finish her. But if she drinks her potion, there's no way to get me up if I fall. As I likely will; my odds of surviving the next monster turn are 4 in 5, declining precipitously for each turn thereafter. I've been thinking about it all day, andLT is the only way to keep us both active for two full turns, and you guys are going to need at least that many to get enough hp from the dragon to finish him without AC.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]I don't like the odds of Ikni vs. the Panther very much. Even if she gets up to 22 HP this turn from LT, to do that she'd have to use her move+minor to feed a potion to Derien. Which leaves her prone and without total defense. The panther can back away and charge her, hitting on a natural 4 for an average 10.5 damage. And if the dragon fires off another breath, we're right back where we started.

Conversely, in my Idea 1, as long as Ironheart hits, Derien gets away clean. Ikni might drop, but someone can feed her a potion next round. LT is still an option, later on.

If Ironheart misses, though, then there's a real chance for both Ikni and Derien to drop this round just from the breath weapon. Then LT looks a lot better. Why don't we have Ironheart go ahead and roll, and see how things look then?

[sblock=Sounds Good]We need IH on the dragon regardless, so yeah. But if I do run away, where can I go within 9 squares that's safe?[/sblock]
