RIP ST:TNG Movies

I'm interested in hearing what you thought was so terrible about Nemesis, Whisperfoot.

Insurrection was decent but very forgetable. It felt very much like an extra-long TV episode to me.

Personally, I don't want to re-hash the stuff that's gone on before. I want a new series, set after the end of Voyager/Nemesis. The galaxy's a political mess at this point, with Cardassia being decimated, the Romulan Senate assassinated in a coup that fell apart, the Federation still rebuilding its fleet after the Borg disaster and Dominion War, etc.

My personal choice? Star Trek: Elite Force. C'mon, you know it would work...

The two main ST series were products of their times. TOS was made at the heart of Cold War tensions, during a period when social and political traditions were being questioned & challenged, while smaller nations waged their own wars (sometimes with help of the Superpowers).

TNG was made when the Cold War was ending, many of the old social quandries were being relegated to history and people were re-examining the way they interact with one another, while smaller nations waged their own wars (using stockpiles bought on the Black Market from the Superpowers, if not being helped by former members of said Superpowers).

Now, we're in a world with one Superpower, new social and political questions are taking to the forefront, and there's the everpresent issue of national and social violence throughout the world (focusing more and more on Black Market stockpiles and funding from independantly wealthy sources, rather than any particular powerful nation).

I think an EF series would fit the feel of ST at this moment. Exploration is still a fundamental part of the feeling, but there's also the need to keep dangerous situations from getting out of hand while the various forces of the ST universe lose stability and try to rebuild. The EF group might be helping explore a world in disputed territory, guarding supplies being shipped to a world in need, or acting in a military capacity to end a violent situation. There's plenty of room for personal interaction, hard political and social questions, and action, all at once.

Hoo-boy. The trouble with Nemesis is the very, very large plot holes in the story. Overall, it's okay, but there are just so many mistakes all over the place... not to mention there really isn't a whole lot of story to it.

This was my immediate and exact thought.

Mine too, but only in regards to Voyager. I'd ove to see a DS9 movie.

I don't subscribe to the viewers need a rest theory much, myself.

I'll buy, for a dollar even. Law of diminsihing returns applies as far as I'm concerned. We've had continuos Trek for fifteen years or so now and it's gotten bad towards the end. Giving us a five to ten year break would give people the opportunity to forget the more recent crap and actually look forward to something new rather than dreading it.

You should. It's a new cast (fan production) doing Classic Trek and it is EXTREMELY well done, for a fan production.

I hadn't seen it, now I have - that was fantastic! I'd say it was extremely well done for a Trek production in general, not just a fan production - nailed the classic feel better than Enterprise has so far.

very little surprise here as well. i believe i remember hearing from all the cast, producers, basically everyone involved with nemisis, even before it hit theaters, was that there would be no more tng movies. ya think that is kinda why the previews said 'a generations final journey' or something like that? to me, been painfully odbvious.

been having a hard time liking anything star trek since insurrection. insurrection hurt me, started a lot less character development, especially with data. really said there, liked data the best i did. in truth, after b&b are gone(b&b, kinda like beavis and butthead, hehe), and maybe taking time off, they should try again. something fresh, for a new generation of viewers. kinda like battlestar galactica is doing.

I personally think the "viewers need a rest" argument is hooey. The viewers don't need a rest. They need solid characters and good writing. There aren't a whole lot of good genres TV shows out there right now. Give viewers something well crafted, and they'll watch it.

Sorry, bro, but as a longtime fan of Trek, it's oversaturating. There are so many stories that have been rehashed from past original episodes, that it is becoming a challenge for the production to write fresh ones, and even some of the fresh ones under the leadership of Branon Braga are a bunch of hooeys. Unimpressed. We don't need more Trek TV at this time. Go the route of Star Wars and James Bond 007 and stick to the big screen.

What we have been given has been overaturated, Star Trek on TV can be fresh if they wanted it to be, look at Firefly, Farscape, Law and Order, and West Wing. What we see is the low road, they are not trying to write good / produce stuff.

I would love to see a Voyager movie. I loved the show, and I guess it would be possible to show us what happened to the Borg. I think it would be a great idea.
