Riposte Strike and ranged attacks

Thanks guys,

I'm still fairly new to the rules myself, and so made the throw the dagger call on the fly to speed things up.

Now I've had a chance to read things up out of the game, I'm pretty happy it wasn't too imbalancing, but I don't think I'd let it happen again, and stick with the melee keyword.

It's funny but the rogue player did seem to think that Riposte Strike made him invulnerablwe to everything - reading the immedaite interrupt to try and claim that it stopped the incoming attack if he hit (instead of just occuring before it) and also declaring a dragons breath weapon would activate the riposte (which it wouldn't as it didn't target the rogue, only his square)

We all had fun though :)

Thanks again

Cheers

Right - it will only prevent the attack if he disables the attacker with the Riposte.

... and also declaring a dragons breath weapon would activate the riposte (which it wouldn't as it didn't target the rogue, only his square)

Careful. The Dragon's breath weapon was something like "Close Blast 5; +10 vs Reflex", right? When he rolls his d20+10 against the Rogue's Reflex defense, the Rogue is a target of the Dragon's attack, and Riposte Strike will trigger.

We had some <ahem> discussion on this. And one of the players pulled up a line from the phb about area attacks (burst or blast) not targetting people in the area, only the squares). I think I jumped on this ruling as the rogue was still trying to claim he would stop the dragons breath weapon with his strike ;)

Now I've done some more reading inspired by Hyp (and being confused by the text of the Aegis of Shielding power from the Swordmage) I do think I was wrong on that one.

I'll clarify these with the players before we play again.

Thanks
