Rogue sneak attack and light armor

Does a Rogue have to be wearing light armor to gain the ability of thier sneak attack? I mean what happens when they are wearing medium or heavy armor besides how it affects thier skills, and that they are not proficeint with the armor?

The PHB is unclear about this, and I can not find anything on this in the errata or the FAQ.

I need help, please.

But, the PHB is really unclear about this.

I was wondering because what if a Fighter took a few levels of Rogue just to get the sneak attack, and he was wearing a breastplate?

Don't create restrictions that aren't there. If the description of an ability doesn't list a restriction, then it doesn't have that restriction. Rogues can sneak attack in anything from full plate to their birthday suits, so long as the requirements are fulfilled.

And in answer to the other question: there's nothing to stop a fighter from taking a few levels of rogue to get sneak attack dice, nor should there be. To get one SA die, he gives up a +1 BAB and 1/2 a feat. To get a second die he gives up a feat and more BAB. That's a fair tradeoff, and a valid choice.

Then he gets to sneak attack, while wearing a breastplate.

Some abilities require lighter types of armor, and say so. Sneak Attack does not. More specifically, SA is described to be available "any time an opponent is denied his dex bonus...". You could be in cursed full plate of clumsiness and have a 5 DEX, and you can still SA someone who cannot properly defend himself from you.

OT, I have not seen one in game, but a friend made a 10/10 Fighter/Rouge in Never Winter Nights, and he was truely frightning.

Actually, you would only lose the 1 BAB for up to 2d6 of Sneak Attack. Rogues have 3/4 BAB so they lose it at 1st, 5th, etc.

They would also lose an average of 2hp per rogue level in comparison to fighter.

Taking a few levels of Rogue can help a lot of fighters, or vice versa. The fighter gets the Sneak Attack dice, several skill points, and (at 2nd level) Evasion.

As a Rogue, picking up a few levels of fighter helps the BAB, hit points, feats, and number of attacks per round. Anyone going to epic levels as a rogue should seriously consider at least 4 levels of fighter by 20th level so they can have four attacks per round.

In my experience with multiclassing, evenly splitting the levels isn't as good as focussing in one class and taking just a few levels of a different class.

Edit: g/loose/s//lose/g
