Rogue sneak attack and multiple hits

KiwiGlen

First Post
A new campaign, and one of the players asked me:

If you attack an opponent with two weapons and it is a sneak attack, do you get sneak attack damage on both assuming they both hit?

My opinion is:

The general rule seems to be that one applies precision-based damage only once (cf Manyshot feat, p. 97 PHB).

But I would be inclined to believe you would still have two chances to apply that sneak attack damage: so as long as one of your attacks hit, you could apply precision-based damage.

Both hits deal sneak attack damage.

Also beings with claw claw bite get sneak on each hit, provided the foe has lost it's dex bonus.

One applies precision damage only once per attack. The Manyshot feat is a single attack, so precision damage is applied only once.

Attacking with two weapons is two separate attacks, and precision damage is applied to each. Likewise, if your BAB permits multiple attacks (+11/+6/+1, for example), precision damage applies to each; similarly feats like Rapid Shot, which generate extra attacks.

Sneak Attack damage will apply to both attacks if the opponent is denied his Dex bonus (or the rogue is flanking the targets) for both attacks.

If I understand it dual wielding sneak attackers get sneak attack twice if they’ve surprised their opponents, but otherwise you get sneak attack damage once a round.

It’s a weird rule, I don’t think most people ran it this way until the sage came out of the blue and basically said that this special case exists.

Its particularly odd because if you get an extra attack from two weapon fighting and you surprise someone you get sneak attack damage twice for that action, but if you are just making two attacks as part of your iterative attack sequence you only get it once.
(If I understand it correctly).

You dont.

EVERY attack that qualifies for sneak attack (target lost DEX bonus or flanked barring special circumstances) gets the extra sneak attack damage.

Manyshot and spells with multiple missiles are ONE attack, so you only add precision damage once (per attack, not per missile).

No, you can get sneak attack damage on however many attacks a round, as long as they qualify for a condition (opponent is flanked or loses Dex bonus vs. your attack) which enables sneak attack. I've never seen any Sage advice suggesting SA damage applies only once a round.

I seriously doubt the sage said the (mostly because I'd have expected to have heard about it). But, if he did say that, then he is wrong, because the PHB says nothing of the sort.

And actually, dual wielding characters only get sneak attack damage once when they surprise their opponents--because you only get a standard action in the surprise round, which means one attack, even for a dual-wielder.

Quite so! Unless they have TW Pounce, I guess.

EDIT: And they can full-attack there enemy in the first round too, if they beat their initiative.
