Run vs. Slow

First Post
Heya,

Thought I would share this in case others were wondering. This is the WotC response I received on the unclear wording of Run vs. Slow.

"You asked the following question:

1. Can a character run while slowed. My guess is no, because the wording on Slow says you cannot increase your speed. However, the wording on run says "move your speed +2" which seems different than something like "increase your speed by 2". So if I move my slow speed (2) am I done, or do I get +2 because I am running?

Slow sets your speed to 2. So you can "run while slowed" which increases your speed to your slowed speed of 2 + 2 for running, which is 4. So you are "slow running" at a speed of 4.

Please let me know if you need anymore help!"

My questions to Wiz Customer Support:

Does the "Slow" condition (Sleep etc) affect TOTAL movement for the turn or just the Speed.

a)Will Running while Slowed allow you to move 4 squares/move action?
b)Can you take 2 separate Move actions to move 4 squares while Slowed? (perhaps with a Minor action in between, so that its NOT a double move)
c)Does Heavy Armor reduce your movement while slowed to 1 square?

Answers:

1. You can't use the run action to increase your speed when you're slowed

2. Yes, you can take 2 separate move actions to move 4 squares.

3. Yes, you will stake a movement penalty from heavy armor when you're slowed.

I wouldn't let them run. How can u run, when you are so damn slow? ;)

No really I wouldn't increase the speed through run because that would make the slow effect even weaker than it already is. I mean a slowed character could charge 6 squares if run is allowed (2+2 move action + 2 charge), which is usually more than he a combatant need anyhow.

I really don't understand why people try contacting CS for rules questions. Every edition has been the same thing, three different people send the same question and get three different answers. The CS reps are no better authorities than you or I, they are able to get the question to the designers quicker than you or I in theory...

Exactly.

I have no confidence in the ability of customer service to provide anything better advice than I'd find here on ENworld (or, for that matter, just reading the books and making my own mind up).

If I hear something from Mearls, Collins et al about how they expected something to work, I'll pay attention. Customer service though? No way, I'm afraid.
