Sailors on the Starless Sea

Homer and Hank nod sagely and grab a robe and don them. However Fred just stands and watches the goings on at the pyramid in a strange watchful gaze.

Narančasta

"We can't all wear robes. There are not enough to go around. And we stick together. One or two lone figures creeping around will just raise suspicion if spotted."

Narančasta takes a deep breath.

"Lets get moving. The longer we wait here, the more chance there is we will be spotted.

"Tender, Siva, Kurl and I will dress as cultists. Kurl will wear the tabard as well, and act the head cultist.

"Boral, Homer, Hank and Franko, you will act as our 'captives'. Hide you weapons in your robes. We will get you in among the other villagers as soon as we can. Warn them as to what is about to happen, free any if you can, and be prepared. Use the other villagers to cover you actions.

"Meanwhile, Kurl will get us close to the two cultists at the top. Killing them I think is our best chance of stopping what is happening, and saving the villagers. Keep your eyes open for a scull sceptre. In the murals, it looked important."

Franko hears his his name mentioned and responds, "Huh?, oh. Right. Hide my stuff"

Homer gulps and sets to the task of hiding his weapons.

Hank, A scribe blanches as his imagination takes over momentarily. He watches two of the other " slaves " get to the task and follows suit - slowly, almost reluctantly.

Tender, Siva, and Narančasta don the robes while Kurl adds the tabard over his robe and the others act as captives. Disguised and with weapons hidden the group begins their deception and heads up the ramp towards the top of the ziggurat.

The ramp circles three levels of the ziggurat structure before the fourth, the peak, can be reached. The beastmen have quite a bit of head start on the group but they are distracted in their religious fervor and dragging the villagers towards their doom on the peak where the large figure looms and so are moving slowly.

Still, the group must hurry if they are to reach the surviving villagers before they reach what can only be impending sacrifice. Finally, the group comes up on the tail end of the procession. The villagers are near the front of the procession just a short way from the top and to reach them will require moving amongst the beastmen. The disguises seem to be working and the beastmen in their ecstasy are fooled.

Ascending the ramp of the fourth level finally gives a clear view of the top. The peak is a temple dominated by a vast, smoking pit that glows with a hellish light. A mighty beastman hoists an effigy of a fearsome armored figure high into the swirling clouds as the first prisoner is hurled into the pit. A trio of snarling beastmen upends woven baskets, pouring thousands of coins in after your fellow villager, producing gouts of hissing smoke and flame. All about you is the thundering cacophony of drums and bestial howls as the bizarre ritual nears its climax.

Narančasta and Siva

Narančasta is initially content to hang back, reluctant to push through the beastmen for fear of being discovered. That all changes as they reach the fourth level, and witness the first villager being hurled into the pit.

Narančasta snarls under his breath to Kurl. "We have to get to the top now!"

Grabbing Tender by the shoulder, he hisses, "Stay with me!" Then Narančasta turns and, dropping his shoulder begins to push through the beastmen at the rear using his elbows and shoulders to clear a path for the others. His sword remains in its sheath for now, as Narančasta is hoping to get close enough to hurl one or two of the priests into the pit before they realise they are in a fight. He draws his flail however, but using it only as a prod to help clear a path if necessary.

"Make way for new sacrifices! Clear a path! Make way!"

Nearer the back, Siva pantomimes pushing the 'captives' forwards. "Go! Go! Get up among the other villagers as fast as you can," she urges.

[sblock=OOC] Narančasta's first objective is to try and get the party to the top where they can get their 'captives' in among the villagers. Then god willing he hopes to push a priest or two, or perhaps the big dude with the holding up the effigy, into their own pit before they realise what's happening.

Some Rolls:
Initiative [roll0]+3
Actually, this sounds like a Mightly Deed (although with +0 STR and 1d3 Deed, the odds of it being mighty are slim)
Well, just in case the opportunity presents itself; Attack [roll1] Deed [roll2]

We can burn LUCK to improve rolls, right? I think I am going to be burning like a pyromaniac.

We are so dead.

He goes nothing ... submit!

Franko is the best at faking things, so he gives a weak look of hate to Siva as he makes his way forward.

Homer jus plods along, not sure how to fake anything.

Hank tries to 'get pushed' into the main batch of prisoners, getting jostled as much as he can alloow. if he can he will fall on someone and in so doing will whisper, "we are here to help. get ready for a change"

It is Tender who grips Boral's shoulder, as if he is to sacrifice the lad. He whispers, "Make it a good show, lad. Almost there."

Boral does as he is asked, but the fear in his heart is real as he profanes repeatedly, "Oh $#!^," is all he can repeat, like some profane chant over and over again.

Kurl takes the lead as he guides the party forward, weaving between beastmen as he rushes towards the top, his face fixed in an expression of real, mad ecstasy as he revels in the moment.

The beastman shaman is shouting chants in his bestial language and hefting the effigy high into the air. Narančasta reaches the top dragging Tender who likewise pulls Boral after him. Kurl is nearly at Narančasta's side and ahead of Tender and Boral when the warrior hits the unsuspecting shaman and topples him into the pit still clutching the effigy. The high scream of terror reaches new notes of pain and then cuts off abruptly.

Immediately the dim light of torches flickering around the top of the ziggurat is extinguished and the only light is a hellish glow coming from the pit. The four at the top can see into the pit: the villager, the shaman and the gold are all consumed by the magma and the effigy bursts into flame. The effigy draws in the sacrifice-laden magma and then hardens into a black shell that cracks and quickly falls away to reveal the fully armored body of a chaos lord: a hellish, horned humanoid with a single eye that blazes with infernal light. In one fist he clutches a triple-headed spiked flail.

Several beastmen howl their anger in Narančasta's face and try to grab him to toss him in after the shaman. Only one is successful, however, and it grabs the warrior in a vice-like grip and tries to drag Narančasta to the edge of the pit.

Franko, Homer, and Hank are amongst the villagers and therefore cannot see what is happening down in the pit but see a group of beastmen dogpile Narančasta. The villagers are in terrible shape; they are ill-fed, abused, and terrified. They hardly seem to recognize Hank or hear his reassurances over the horrors surrounding them.

[sblock=OOC]doghead, that was enough to succeed at your first mighty deed. And so, the shaman is dead and you are all in combat. Well, Narančasta is in combat. The beastmen don't yet realize that the others are with Narančasta and so are focusing their ire on him.

Aside from those surrounding Narančasta the beastmen are still realizing what is going on.

You are up![/sblock]
