D&D 5E Scenarios in a Drow City

You could have a dispute between the high, middle, or both ranking levels of the priestly power structure (as drow are ruled by priestesses) of the city's military and the same present in its arcane leadership which is causing a hige amount of disfunction and cloack and dagger fighting and subterfuge.

Perhaps two very prominent members (one of each) are twin sisters who are rivals in the priesthood. Both having heavily involved themselves in one or the other side of the power structure. Both with followers.

I know you say you dont use demons or devils or other planes but what about a half demon. Draegloths are powerful half demons that drow societies create (always male) which are intended to be raised to be a rare exception to the rule of males never being involved in the leadership caste. They can hold a leadership role in many functional parts of society and can even outrank most (definitely not all) females. As a matter of fact they are not conceived except for that purpose (and also its a part of the rite of passage for a drow high preistess to ascend the throne).

Perhaps a priestess conceives an unsanctioned one as a part of a bid for power (and has been hiding out up until recently for 15 years, now returning with the adolescant and a message. Is she a false prophet? A wouod be usurper? What is the draegloth's strange purpose. What plot is in motion that he would be conceived), or perhaps one is conceved inexplicably and the city now has to wonder why on earth it was done. By whom? And how? Did she really even conceive a draegloth or is it all a deception somehow? Is the current priesthood hiding something?

Perhaps the city is hit by a mysterious plague from a rival spider entity to lolth and people are dying unexpectly from tiny spiders erupting from all orifices (perhaps attemtping to mock lolth. A grievous mistake if the party finds out who the offender is)

Oooooo

You could have a necromancer commissioned by the city to build a gigantic flesh golem intended to repel the surface invaders (like 15 stories high and requires circle magic) but he goes rogue and has his golem start attacking the city or some very important site for the cities resources or something.

maybe something like this? Partially amorphous so that it can fit through corridors smaller than expected and make it very difficult to escape from/evade for long? Rellentlessly following people? And 15 stories tall when standing.

Somethung to take into consideration that you might find useful to you. Flesh golems of titanic size require an immensely powerful soul to be the controlling spirit. Could be a useful plot point.

Perhaps a corrupted spirit of a war hero from an army of the surface invaders was used? Doesnt have to have died recently. Could be a dude the current matron's mother fought?

Lots of ways it increase the depth of your plot's history are available with necromancy side stories and how long the conflicts have been going if you want.
