Searching for Hercules (no..not Kevin Sorbo...)

When I was a kid (this would be in the early-mid eighties) I watched tons of hercules movies with my dad, and I have fond memories of them. The problem is, I want to watch them again, but cant find any references to the ones I remember seeing. (Every time I do a web search I get plenty of herc/xena websites... )

Anyway there are two in particular, maybe three (heck the scenes I remember may be all from the same movies for all I can remember)

In one, Hercules is in a boat as a baby, two snakes as big as your arms come into the boat, and the baby strangles them bare-handed. (I know thats part of the herc myth, but the scene from this movie is still so clear in my head. I just wish I knew the name of the movie and who was in it so I could look for it again.)

Then theres the one where he picks up a log and throws it at a mass of onrushing soldiers to wipe them out all at once (I know that one isnt much help either).

And finally, The one I want to re-watch (despite how cheesy it will likely be) is the one where the gods keeping sending monsters down to plague him, and every few scenes he has to fight a metal, wind-up monster (I specifically think I remember a multi-headed dragon being one of them.)

Any help would be MUCHLY appreciated. About the only other help I can give is that these movies are from the harryhausen age (though not necessarily harryhausen movies), and the one actor I remember the most who played herc had short, black curly hair and a beard to match.

I pretty sure you're talking about the Lou Ferrigno (the Hulk) Hercules movies, but there are only 2 of them. You can find them on IMDB.

That's definitely the first Ferigno Herc film.

I prefer the 2nd with his search for Zeus' missing thunderbolts which were hidden inside various monsters.

One of them ended with a cartoon battle between King Kong and a dinosaur and/or snake, rendered in neon colors. No, really, it did! Herc got changed into a version of Kong that looked like Neon Noodle from that "Duck Tracy" Daffy Duck cartoon, and the villain, King Minos, turned into the snake/dinosaur. I think they just traced the fight from the original King Kong.

Minos was the villain in both films, btw.

That did happen in an episode of the Sorbo series.

I was one of the soldiers - the riggers had to get a new spreader bar specially made to jerk five of us simultaneously

Really? Amazing who you run into on these boards. I didnt watch much of Herc/Xena..just never cared much for those shows, except for the shows where they were taking shots at themselves (Remember the one where the cast all played studio heads trying to figure out where Kevin had gone? Thats the only Herc episode I remember much).


And thanks Hand of Evil. I'd looked over that page, but the info they give is so sketchy, I could never be sure.

In general, when you know you're looking for a movie, don't go for Google. Go for The Internet Movie Database (IMDb). Also good for finding out about TV shows (even obscure ones).

My personal fave is Mario Bava's Hercules in the Haunted World. Christoper Lee vs. Hercules? Bring it on!
