Should I adjust the Caves of Chaos adventure for # of players?

The caves of chaos adventure has plenty of monsters, so it probably doesn't need to be adjusted for a greater number of players, but what should a DM do when he has 2 - 3 players instead of 4 - 5+?

In 4e I could just remove one standard monster for each player less than five. In this playtest I don't know if I should adjust these encounters at all. Would it be a fair test of the system to have the party wiped out by the first group of kobolds they find? Knowing how different numbers of players do in the module could be useful feedback, but I'd like to give my players more of a chance.

I could figure out a simple conversion if I knew what number of players was expected for the module. Five like 4e? Four like 3e? Four to five plus several henchmen like AD&D?
