Sidewinder - Back in the Saddle - OOC

I'm thinking 3rd level is a good starting point. So let's go with 1877. Let's go with a 32 point buy.

Money will be max starting plus take an average horse to begin with. If you want something you can't afford, let me know and we'll see if we can't work something out.

You've pretty much covered character creation. I do have a couple questions, though. What about modified weapons? Can we have custom grips, etc on weapons to start out with?

Hit points -- maximum for background and first level, and then roll on the honor system? Or should we use averages? Some other method?

Does the free average horse include saddle, tack, etc. or should we figure on buying them out of our starting money?

I don't care which way you decide on anything, just want to get the rules straight before I start making a character.

Thanks,

Max

Ah, see? The noobie pbp GM has already screwed up. :)

HP are max for first and background. I will go with the honor system for the other levels.

Free average horse includes what it takes for it to get out the door and on the trails. Tack, Saddle, saddle bags, etc. Just don't go too crazy. I figured you all would have at least this being experienced people.

As far as the weapon enhancements go, I figured that you all could pay for them. As long as you all can afford it, you can buy it.

Anybody have any other questions?

Could I trade in the average horse for one of better quality and pay the difference? (I figure an ex-cavalry man should have a better than average horse, but this and a custom rifle really add up. :D )

BTW, I'll try to reconstruct the rifleman PrC and send it your way once finished. If you don't like it, I will try to come up with a different concept. :)

Sam Bartley was born April 2nd, 1855, the son of Jeffery and Martha Bartley, in Douglas City Kansas Territory. Sam’s family had just arrived in Douglas to open a General store in the budding town.

In 1858 Sam’s father, after hearing of the gold strike in Colorado, moved the business to Denver in hopes of making a better profit with the gold rush. Sam grew up in Denver helping his father in the General Store. He was fascinated with the people that past through the city, especially the gamblers. Sam would go to the saloons after work to watch the gamblers play poker or faro. Being friendly with most of the locals they would even let Sam sit and play in a friendly game of poker, just to teach him the ropes.

Sam was too much of a dreamer to stay in one place working as a store clerk. So at the age of 17 Sam left home to make his way in life as a gambler.

After 5 years of traveling from town to town Sam is heading back home to Denver, with just a quick stop over in Colorado City.

Note: Sam was to young to participate in the Civil War.

Yes, sorry I didn't mention that. If you would like a better horse, then you can pay the difference. And to further clarify, the horse for free would be the Horse, Riding: fair (the $50 dollar variety). I'm guessing that you want to know about the PrC so that you can tailor your guy to meet the requirements?

Also, I've decided to have the adventure start on Jan 1 1877. So if you'd like, winter gear may be needed.....Sorry for bringing this up now. I'm a bit scatterbrained it seems. :)

Please see the post on the first page for general rules of the game. I will continue to edit it as needed when questions arise.

Thanks!

Hey, take it easy! :) (No need for any special haste.)

Like I said, I'll try to to come up with a 3.0 version that preserves the more flavourful abilities without being overpowering compared to the other Sidewinder PrC. Then you can decide whether to accept (or modify) it. [Sorry, I really didn't mean to make it sound like some kind of blackmail. :D ]

If not I'll come up with something different.

Just one further question, though:

What kind of city is Colorado City in this time? (Size, main source of income, etc.) Sorry for asking, but as a German I unfortunately know almost nothing about this.

Thanks,

Folkert

I would say that the population was about 1000. For this game that'll work. Main source of income would be spread across the gold trade coming through, farming, ranching, and freight. There was no main source of income. It was the capital of Colorado territory, but replaced by Denver in 1871ish. I'll send you a link to give you some ideas. Not too much info, but could help out.

Looks good. I'm going to go with a wrangler I think. He'll obviously be a heck of a horseman, and also something of a gunman as well. I have him about half done. I'm off to Portland today, so I'll get him posted up tomorrow most likely.

Looking for one more. Also, Toric. Take a look at the Rifleman and see if there's anything you can see as far as working it into the first edition rules. I'm looking now, but I'm also a bit more involved with figuring the scenario out.

I guess it's too late to join, huh ?

Hi Doc!

I don't think it's too late for you. :)

Max, you're in if you would like. So that's 4 and I will allow one more plus an alternate if anybody else is interested. I'm looking for at a 2 posts per week game. I'll post more or less depending on the players and real life, so that's not a major concern of mine.

Judging from this you should be last one to make the cut!
