<sigh> *Another* week off.

Mystery Man

First Post
I'm on vacation yet again. :( I have 300 some odd hours of vacation time. And i have to burn at least 60 of that before the end of november or lose it. Thing is, every time I take a week off I get it back practically by the next time I take a week off. I just can't take off enough of work. Ah, what a dilemma. :\

It's getting kind of old, this..working only 3 weeks out of the month... :heh:

You know, if the worst thing that happens to you today is that you discover you have too much vacation time, you should count yourself in the luckiest 1% of the world's population. Sighing about this is like sighing about how your bed is made of money, and has too many lumps in it thereby. Doing so on a Monday morning before the cranky working stiffs have had their second cup of coffee is asking for trouble....

Does your company have a program that allows you to donate unused vacation time to employees who have serious illnesses or family issues that force them to take unpaid leave time? Look into it with your HR department. I have donated a few hours here and there when I had an excess of sick time at the end of the year that I wasn't going to use. The programs are not usually publicised, but many companies have them in place.

One of the things on my agenda today is going to be taking my daughter to the hair dresser. Last night (she's 5 btw) she decided it would be cool to take a pair of scissors to her own head. Now its not like she clipped some bangs off no, she took the entire top of her head and gave herself a mohawk of sorts. Two thirds of the top of her head sticks up like a cockatoo! So since I'm the lucky guy with the day off and there's no school today I get to take her in and see if there is anything at all that can be done to save her from looking like a...well, an adjective fails me right now. Gonna be a fun one!!

Not a bad idea, I have a coworker with a very sick wife and since I have well over 100 hours of sick time (vacation and sick time are separate) I may see if he can use some of that.

Before you envy Mystery Man, first you should ask if he can afford to go anywhere. Being forced to stay at home, while the pile of paper on your desk grows bigger (since no-one else will do your job...), and not having the cash to even be able to visit local tourist attractions, that's not the best.

Me, I have around 12.5 days of paid leave available. I'm earning another 3.5 hours a week. And I don't have the money to go anywhere. Even if I took a day off, every day I take off leaves me scrambling the next two weeks to catch up.

As is, they'll only let me accumulate 300 hours of paid time off. At this rate, I'll reach that in another two years. (I'm saving about 55% of my total...)

Nope, its all good. Matter of fact later in the week I may just leave town with my dad and head up the river and go fishing. Granted, its not an African safari but its what I do. Really I could go anywhere I wanted within reason (I do have two kids) and I have two co-workers that do the same job I do, we shoulder the burden while another one of us takes time off.

As the owner of a 4 year old who recently took some scisors to her hair (though to a much lesser degree), I urge you to take pictures. I also urge you to post them here for our amusement. ;)
