The Main FAQ states that attempting to strike a bow does not use the Strike a Weapon rules, but instead uses the rules for Strike a Held Object.

Figured I'd look this up, since it keeps coming up. Here's the exact quote from the current FAQ (in a question about how best to fight spellcasters and archers in melee), p. 41:

Normally you need to make an opposed attack roll to strike a foe’s weapon or shield, but if the item you’re striking is not a melee weapon or a shield, just use the rules for striking a held, carried, or worn object (pages 135 and 136 in the Player’s Handbook).

Since this language begins with "normally you need to make an opposed attack roll", my reading is that it's specifically in the context of adjudicating the to-hit roll and not anything else. The "magic damage" issue would still be covered by the separate section on "Magic Weapons and Shields" on PHB p. 136.

Again, I would very much expect that the Sage would still agree that +1 bows require +1 melee weapons to damage them. (As it should be, for simplicity's sake.)

It's not a separate section, though... it's a subsection of the rules for Striking a Weapon.

Which we're not using.
