Smallville and Supernatural Renewed- Warning (Spoilers from season finale episodes)

I"m a little surprised by Smallville. It felt pretty lackluster all season. Though I'm happy to see Supernatural squeak through another year.

This reaper show looks good if its serious and not funny. I like the idea of parents selling their child's soul to the devil.

I think Smallville's had it's moments this season with the proto-Justice League stuff, and even the whole Lana/Lex/Clark triangle has a little more substance now that Lionel got involved and Lana know's there *something* special about Clark, even if she still doesn't understand the specifics.

I am sad to see Veronica Mars got axed, tho. I just started watching it this season, thanks to the magic of my new DVR, and thought it a pretty sharp show.

I think Smallville's had a great season, very much enjoying it.

It truly is a bummer about Veronica Mars: yet another one of those really sharp shows that just never found a big enough audience, not unlike Sports Night or Firefly, though fortunately it lasted much longer.

I think this has been one of Smallville's better seasons overall.

The Justice League angle really helped it out, as does Lex getting to be the bad guy. Phantom Zoners are just freaks-of-the-week with different origin than the krypto-freaks from past seasons.

But I do agree that it's starting to get a little long in the tooth. And so does one of the producers, citing that the most the show will go is 8 seasons as every story "has to have an ending."

Not a watcher of Supernatural or Veronica Mars, but I've heard some good things about the later, so I'm sorry to hear that it got dropped.

Lex's actor has stated the next season is his last season, so I'm pretty much assuming it's Smallville's last season as well. I think this year has been one of the best by far, with Green Arrow and the JL episodes.

Veronica Mars might have a chance, still; their plans to revamp the show by fast-forwarding through college and placing her at Quantico would be very cool (and the creators acknowledge that the college thing just isn't working). We might could still see someone else pick this up.

I thought seven seasons was the " standard " .

In any case, I think one more season to tie it up sounds about right.

In any case, last nights episode...
Lois dying, then Chloe dying to bring Lois back to life, then the birth of Bizarro. Crazy stuff. The last season certain is the most appropriate for the Man vs. Himself conflict, though.

Honestly, I think Veronica Mars killed itself. It had a good first season and was creating lots of positive buzz, only to screw up the formula pretty thoroughly over the next two seasons. I still like the Veronica character, and certainly the actress playing her is top notch, but I place the blame squarely on the shoulders of the creative team.

From what I recall, seven seasons is the standard contract length for the actors. That would explain why most of the time a hit show either runs five seasons (100 episodes is the sweet spot for syndication) or seven (before the contracts get renegotiated, or when a key actor simply wants out).
