Hey Maester Luwin, ecliptic, and JS, long time no talk since the GoO boards have been down.
For a while I'd been thinking I wouldn't get the RPG. I didn't agree with the choice to make the Maester a class rather than a generic scholar, make Godsworn specific to the faith of the Seven, or have a Kingsguard or Bloodrider PrC. I also was hoping HP would be removed entirely. I finally decided that it would be a waste of all my time spent reading previews and discussing the game not to get the game, so I ended up purchasing the pdf...
...And I'm glad I did.
Not only does it have beautiful text and layout and very good world information, but the game does a great job of capturing the feel of Westeros and has well-thought out mechanics. I probably wouldn't use it for in-person games, which I find tend to be more combat heavy and where detailed rp can be tough, but I'm already joining and possibly going to run a play-by-post game. Props to the designers, you've done a particularly great job considering that you don't have the resources of a big WotC-like company, and the book seems as well done both in style and substance as one of theirs.
I have already run a Night's Watch adventure using Malhavoc's Iron Heroes system (since this game wasn't out, of course), set around Raymun Redbeard's invasion. At some point I may convert it to the GoT system.
