So anyone get ahold of the A Game of Thrones RPG?

Hey Maester Luwin, ecliptic, and JS, long time no talk since the GoO boards have been down.

For a while I'd been thinking I wouldn't get the RPG. I didn't agree with the choice to make the Maester a class rather than a generic scholar, make Godsworn specific to the faith of the Seven, or have a Kingsguard or Bloodrider PrC. I also was hoping HP would be removed entirely. I finally decided that it would be a waste of all my time spent reading previews and discussing the game not to get the game, so I ended up purchasing the pdf...

...And I'm glad I did. :) Not only does it have beautiful text and layout and very good world information, but the game does a great job of capturing the feel of Westeros and has well-thought out mechanics. I probably wouldn't use it for in-person games, which I find tend to be more combat heavy and where detailed rp can be tough, but I'm already joining and possibly going to run a play-by-post game. Props to the designers, you've done a particularly great job considering that you don't have the resources of a big WotC-like company, and the book seems as well done both in style and substance as one of theirs.

I have already run a Night's Watch adventure using Malhavoc's Iron Heroes system (since this game wasn't out, of course), set around Raymun Redbeard's invasion. At some point I may convert it to the GoT system.

Hey Skyman! Great to hear from you. If you ever convert that game could you send me a copy. I could always use more material during this period. My campaign has started. Second session tomorrow night. Keep in touch! Thanks Maester Luwin

Thanks for giving it a chance. We knew some of the decisions would be contentious, but we're really happy with the result - and the response so far.

cheers,
JS

Hey everyone! I have updated my Actual Play thread above. I am really loving this game! My players have really gotten into it. I'll have more to post later. Thanks Maester Luwin

Connovaer: Why do you think having low-to-no magic will wreck your chances of a successful campaign?

lo T B thanks for the response.

It aint exactly just the lo magic issue, unfortunately a couple of my players are what i would call luddites, they are totally high fantasy bred players, these guys dont like change.

The two most recent games we have played have been Silver age sentinels (GM'd by me) followed by M&M (gm'd) by my mate. It has been like pulling teeth to get them to buy into these games, and now at long last they smell fantasy (thi9nk wolves chaing down injured prey jaws slathering.)

Once upon a time me and these guys used to play every sunday for nearly 12 hours some truly epic fantasy games that went on for years, but were all older (a lot :( ) and nowadays we have to exist on 4 hours on tuesday night for our fix. I just dont see me being able tyo spend enough time with each character to fully investigate the political intrigue that is at the heart of this game.

The fact that only two of my players have read the books means that the two luddite lumbering high fantasy players are dissadvantaged and unfortunaely therefore not as liable to give me the grace i need to run what is a very complex world.

To be honest i am desperately gutted that i cannot run this world as it and the rpg deserve to be run. I have gone out and bought AE as i heardsome cracking reviews about it, it has enough of a change from vanilla d&d to make it new and interesting whilst retaining enough immediacy to make it quickly and easily accesible.

I have not given up on AGOT at all as i think the adaptation is absolutely first class, however i will be irging my two wayward friends to read the book, thaqt in my opinion is the only way to get them to buy into the world how i would like to run it.

All I wanna know is where is my hardcopy of the deluxe limited edition??? I got my pdf a long time ago. And when are the GoO forums going back up? It's been a month or more!

WEll, I got my d20 version of the book for review. It looks very impressive, even for a GoO book. And I hold GoO in the highest standard as their books lately have looked amazing. I really didn't think they could improve on just the look so much. I really need to sit down and read this thing now, but time prevents that at the moment. Stupid chores.....
