So anyone pick up Eldritch Sorcery?

Got my package today, with WoW RPG, Eldritch Sorcery, and d20 apocalypse.

So far, all are looking like fine purchases.

Yeah. But not any that I notice right off that weren't 1e first. No "seven eyes" for example.

One caught me off guard tonight. Know Alignment. Um, I might have to make that one off limits.

A few other quick comments: Rimeshatter does not seem very strong for a 9th level spell.

Nice that classes other than sor/wiz get some love here. My druid player was enchanted at all the frost-themed spells that are on the druid list.

I like that it's not just oddball spells, but a bunch of utility spells.

How does Necromancer define "the spirit subtype"? (For protection from spirits).

Bravo on actually having guideance on actually providing guidance on extra domain spells.

"Atheist" thingies that grant benefits in a game with concrete and in your face deities that grant spells on a daily basis strike me as silly.

Dig rainbow staff and spear.

I love Zat's Coat of Many Arms. This spell is SO 1st edition, it actually doesn't belong in 3E. I'm not sure a 14th level wizard is meant to use a 1st level spell to slay an enemy in potentially 1 strike. That is why Chromatic Orb was removed, if I remember all the hubbub back in the early days of 3E.

But damn, I really like the creativity and feel of the spell.

The text still leaves me to believe the caster can cast 2 spells per round for the duration of the spell.

That's not the impression I got, but I must say it took me a few reads to get it.

Basically, when it talks about casting two spells a round, it seems to be speaking of the jolt spell and another spell, i.e., re-explaining the "swift action" mechanic. (You know, "swift action" is in the SRD now. Perfectly on limits for use in d20 products. ;) )

But the spell is poorly worded. For example, it uses the word "basically" in there. Basically, it's like a forum post. ;)

In my 2e campaigns, I recall every wizard memorizing chromatic orb for that very reason!

As for Eldritch Sorcery, I'm very happy with it. Unfortunately, the PCs just fought an evil wizard within the last two adventures, so I'll have to wait to use some of the spells until later. Unless I go with an evil druid or cleric. Which thinking about it, I might just do that.

I agree, it's very nice to see that the book covers more than just arcane magic.

Psion, as the author of the spell, I'm delighted that you read it! Now, Patrick I'm sure had good reason to downgrade it from the original. However, you may like to know that my own version as submitted had the text as follows:

At your command, bitter cold that freezes the blood and chills flesh like being dropped into liquid nitrogen envelops the area, coating everyone and everything with a thick layer of frost. Anything in the area takes 1d6 cold damage/caster level (Fort save for half) and 1d6 Constitution damage/5 caster levels. Any creature brought to –10 hp (or object brought to 0 hp) by this spell cracks and shatters into pieces.

The key difference being that the Con damage is 1d6/5 levels. Note also that you don't get a save versus that, only the cold. Where's the evil smiley when you need it? ;)

As a reader of the text (because I only contributed a percent of the total spell count), I also second the fact that there are lots of utility spells, traditional spells brought back, and nifty stuff for the casters other than the wizard and sorc, who also get lots of options. :D

3d6 con damage, plus ~65 damage... Yeah, that's a bit much even for a 9th level spell. Maybe a 1d12 con damage instead of 1d6...

I submitted some stuff, but I need to go through and see which of my stuff made it in.
