Are there any rules for picking characters up and using them as improvised weapons?

Grapple followed by improvised weapon penalty attack role?

How much damage would you do?

I'd rule two things:

1) you'd need a feat to do it properly. Otherwise you get a -4 to hit and damage.

2) Halflings, being small, only do 1d3 damage.

I agree on the -4 to hit ...

As for the damage: I'd make it the same as unarmed damage (without any feats). Halflings have too much give ... they'd only do a bit of subdual damage.

If he still has daggers in hand then I would rule that he does damage as a morningstar :p

We have used the "Kender-toss" method of getting a rope into a window before. Mixed results. BTW, it is usually bad in the long run to annoy the party thief. ;)

Hi everyone,

To Hit: -4.
I think there is a feat somewhere in terms of using unusual things as weapons - broken bottle, split chair leg etc. - without penalty. I suppose this could also include a halfling.

Damage: 1d3 Subdual
However, should damage also be done to the halfling? Intuitively, I would say yes. However, you don't deal damage to a weapon when you hit something so theoretically, no damage to the Halfling. For flavor though, I'd say 1d3 Subdual to both.

Best Regards

Hermannan,

PG: Fighters and Barbarians has an Improvised Weaponry Feat to decrease this.

But I think the damage shouldn't be subdual. Especially not to the halfling.

A Halfling is arguably a Medium object resized down to Small-size, therefore a Medium-sized wielder may incur an additional -2 penalty for using an improperly sized weapon. ;)

One need to determine what "humanoid" as a weapon deal for damage. I would say 2d4 bashing. While a body makes a big weapon, it's actually quite floppy overall.

Then, if you use a halfling, and you are yourself a human, you would get a -4 nonproficiency penalty and a -2 size penalty (because the halfling is Small, while you're Medium). Damage would be one category lower 2d4, so I would be generous and say 1d8 (slightly smaller average).

Not sure I quite agree with everything about that Gez, but I do think you make the point about the human and halfling use quite well.
