They should use this opportunity to stop re-releasing all of the old adventures to match the current rules set (whatever we end up calling it). Come on Wotc you can do it....create some new stuff now.
how do you mean? like no more old adventure anthologies?

Howso? For all its missteps 4E was a remarkably well-designed game.
I am not sure I like the sterile language we see in the monster stat blocks (so far I can live with it, but if this creeps into everything else too it goes too far for me), or the ‘random’ actions they can take that are not really explained by the creature and exist because they are a ‘cool’ attack skill to have.

Basically it is drifting towards being gamist first and I am no big fan of that

I think it's not a new edition based on how WotC defines editions. In my view less changed from 5e 2014 to 5e 2024 than from 3rd to 3.5.

I would say it's a new edition of 5e, since it is a new variation that new publications will be based on.

But as a WotC product, I don't think it's enough of a difference to be a new edition.

Like more NEW adventures. How many versions of Ravenloft and Temple of Elemental Evil do we need?

Another 3 or 4 at least. Take a look at how many Spider-Man movies we've had! ;)

I don't expect 5.5e to last very long. I expect it will last about as long as 3.0e.

I expect it won't be different enough for many people to justify spending their money on what they perceive to be the same material from past books. It will be a bit like Monsters of the Multiverse. I suspect many people just saw no good reason to buy that book.

There probably won't be a 6.0e. At least not in a recognizable way.

Wait so you expect D&D to just die in a couple years?

Monsters of the Multiverse has more than 5,000 ratings at Amazon alone (and a 4.7 stars rating) and is currently the eighth most popular book on their D&D sales chart, ahead of Xanathar's and all of the adventures other than the Essentials Kit.

There's a danger in extrapolating our tastes out to those of the general public.
