I have just started playing D&D and I'm wondering if there's anyway I can learn more about my charcter. I am a Halfling Rouge and I am immensly interested in finding out anything I can. Thanks :)

Well depends on what's involved in your world. Is it a homebrew (meaning the Dm scratched it out for you)? Do you like cookies? (I like cholocate chip meself.) How about a favorite weapon or song you like to sing? Perhaps maybe make up a thing he/she says a lot like a catchphrase or battle cry. Then there's always the off chance you could delve into the underbelly of a city. Btw do you play in a city or a town. Do you like cities or towns better? Perhaps you're a nature buff.

Hope that helps with character development. :)

Well, when i run a game I let my players decide what they'd like to about their characters. I am really uncertain as to what, exactly you are asking. Do you simply want more information on Halflings? What version of the game are you playing? What does the cover of your book look like? Really and truly the only limit to what you can "know" about your character is what you put into it. Any chance you could tell us what, exactly, it is you wish to know?

Um I play in a city..Hollowfest? I think thats how you spell it. I know I'm pretty good with a sling shot and rocks...But I was also wondering if I could get background information on Halflings and also Rouges. Thanks for the help though. It will help me so much :)

Hee hee! I think you mean Hollowfaust, which means you are gaming in my favorite setting, the Scarred Lands. There's not too much information out there about Scarred Lands Halflings. Yes, you shoul be pretty good with a sling and sling bullets (rocks) but it is important to note that in general, Halflings are looked down upon (pardon the pun) in most of Ghelspad; Ghelspad being the continent on which Hollowfaust resides.

Halflings do get some respect, but in the most unlikely of places. The Calastian Hegemony does grant Halflings some rights. Some view it as pittance for what amounts to slavery. Some halflings take a great deal of pride in Calastia, however. I would ask the person running the game (usually known as the Dungeon Master or Game Master) is they have a book entitled Calastia: Throne of the Black Dragon. In it there is some information about Halflings in the Scarred Lands. I'd also ask if I could glance over Hollowfaust: City of Necromancers/ There is some great information regarding that city-state in there, as yuo might expect. Last and certainly not least, I'd ask if they had either of the two gazetteers, the DM SCreen Companion or Campaign Setting Ghelspad as all of those have brief, but useful tidnits about Halflings in the Scarred Lands. I hope that helps some. As far as what is available online, I hesitate to mention anything, because Ive not found much. If my esteemed fellow, Nightfall, has not posted whilst I was writing this reply already, might I suggest asking him for more specific information as he has access to certain other things I would be reluctant to hand out, as it is his blood, sweat and tears, so to speak. Best of Luck!

Well, as for background information, heres a rundown of the halfling with useful tidbits from pop culture:

Okay, Think of the hobbits from Lord of The Rings (the recent movie or the books, as you prefer, I'll assume you're familiar with one or the other), now, instead of a bunch of homebodies who stay in one place and NEVER go on adventures, make them kind of wanderers: they fit in anywhere, with any kind of people. As for their phyiscal appearence, change them from stocky and slightly plump to thin and agile. And they tend to be stealthy. There you go.

Now the same treatment for the rouge:

Think of the best thief you can think of. If you've seen the Italian Job, roll the entire cast into one person: stealthy, able to pick locks, and good at taking opponents by suprise. If you've read the Hobbit, Bilbo is pretty much your quintesential halfling thief.

Is that more of what your looking for? Anything else I can do to help? You actually sound alot like one of my newer players, except she plays an elf thief, not a halfling thief.

Thank you all so much for the help. I do believe Nightfall has responded and has helped. But if he could help me with the other information that Harlock mentioned I would be most appreciaive.

Welcome and Hiya!

A new gamer, that's great! OK, here is the deal, as far as how you want to play your character, that is largely up to you. That means you can have any personality you want. Likes, dislikes, hobbies, infatuations, all that stuff is made up by you. Heck, you can even do it on the fly, so long as you never conflict with something you have previously established. (Though, even that can change over time. All of us have things that shift.)

Now, it will be useful to know a bit of background on halflings and rogues in your game, so those are good questions! Harlock already has some good ideas on where you can get that.

Feel free to post here whenever you have questions or just want some advice on things. I like EN World. It is a fun place with neat people.
