So... What have you heard about the Dungeons & Dragons Online game?

I know it's based on the Eberron campaign setting (including having Warforged as PC's), and that it's due out in late 2005 (but they just sent out beta test applications). It's also supposed to be true to the 3.5 rules, or as close as they can get and still maintain real-time combat sequences.

What else have you heard?

I was looking forward to it until they announced it would be Eberron. I will not do Eberron in any form.

Well, the Devs are clearly having issues with shapeshifting.

No Druids, No Shifters, no Changelings. Also no monks or artificers.

They are using the UA spell point system with the points multiplied by 4 or 5, because the 1 or 2 encounters then rest model just doesn't work for a realtime game.

They are getting away from overland travel ,you teleport from the city to your adventure, thus eliminating the "I'd join you but I'm a 40 min run away from there." problem you see in other MMORPGs.

The missing stuff, including the item crafting system, are scheduled for a later update.

And that's about all that is known.

They are moving to a more twitch based combat system where supposed user "skill" as opposed to pure D&D rules will govern combat.

Honestly - that's a deal breaker for me. I'm not enthused about Eberron at all - but twitch combat for D&D???

I don't understand why every developer who gets ahold of D&D has to screw it up save and except for BioWare.

You'd think the "stick to the rules - put in a good story" model of developing an iconic property like D&D might make some sense.

Silly. They need to follow the 3.5 rules explicitly.

I can see their reasoning. They want a 'swashbuckler' or 'intense action' feel to it. That's hard to do with turn-based combat or 'click and watch' systems. I'm looking forward to it... :o

Anything but Eberron...They should have set it in FR or GH....Eberron is just wanky, in my opinion...I actually was gonna even buy a new computer for this, guess I gotta try WoW instead.

And my reason is WarForged. A completely lame race...
