Do the ships/battlestars/helmets still have a design similar to the original ones? I always liked the 'egyptian' helmets and the cylons had the funkiest ships!
The Helmets are roughly the same, although the visor section of the helmet is slightly curved making them look more menacing. The Cylons themselves are slightly thinner from the shoulders down (think like the heavier battle droids in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones). They also have this really cool feature where their forearms pivot in the centre and turn into guns, with their hands retreating to where their elbows are!
The Cylon Fighters are slightly reminiscent of the old design but the front is curved like bull horns. Also from head on, the ships 'cockpit' looks like a giant cylon helmet (with red light as I mentioned earlier). It seems likely the the Cylon Fighters are totally robotic rather than being piloted - which makes sense.
The Cylon Base-Stars are just about the coolest motherships I have seen since the Borg Cube. They are totally massive and the top and bottom sections look like 3-pointed Shuriken which are set 60 degrees turned from each other. When the Base-Stars drop out of light speed to engage the Fleet they 'immediately' launch about 500 Fighters and a few score nukes at the Galactica.
The Galactica is just totally bristling with guns when it opens up.
The Vipers are super maneouverable. Think along the lines of the B5 'X-Wings', except the Vipers can turn on a sixpence and are really fast.
All in all the design is very cool.
