Sorcerer in PHB II: Rich Baker says a little

They need another controller, but it seems likely that by the time PH2 gets out there will be more arcane classes than anything else. PH1 has 4 martial, 2 arcane, and 2 divine, but the only possibly martial that's been talked about is the monk, and nothing with a good shot of being classified as divine has come up. Whereas there are at least 3 more arcane classes coming down the line in the bard, swordmage, and sorcerer.

Now that I think about it, they have also mentioned doing an illusionist and a necromancer...

....but everybody :area: magic!

I always sort of pictured 3E sorcerers as superheroes with inborn powers, I'd like to see 4E play this up. I'd also like to see 4E focus on bloodlines, with sorcerers of one bloodline looking very different than sorcerers of a different bloodline. A little wildmagery for one or all bloodlines could be pretty cool too.

As a sidenote, I've just perused Keep on the Shadowfell. Most character powers have an effect if they hit and a lesser (but still beneficial effect) if they miss. I think it'd be cool if wildmagery powers had not only this, but an enhanced effect on a crit (other than max damage), a detrimental effect on a natural 1, and a neutral (but unique) effect if the roll exactly hits the AC or defense number in question.

True, but rumor (and vague hints in Races & Classes and other places) has it they're using a 'shadow' power source.

Well from what we know from Races and Classes. Sorcerers have secondary effects from their Spells, but it comes in different forms that show the lack of control they have/how much magic is part of them.

One example was after firing a fireball, the sorcerer is engulfed in magical flames that scorch enemies that attack the sorcerer.

I too would like to see sorcerors turn out more like wilders, with the capacity to take a risk in return for a reward as part of the class' design and hopefully all of its powers.

What else was there to the concept? Seems to me that the socerer was a 90% mechanical distinction from the wizard in 3.x. Do you mean in supplemental materials, when they put the "maybe you have some other kind of bloodline" spin on things?

That you were using an innate talent rather than regurgitating formulas that you spent a decade memorizing in a dank tower somewhere. The power was yours, not just a product of the study of universal laws.

Didn't we have some of this in the Races and Classes book? They said something along the lines that if a sorcerer cast a fireball spell he might be on fire himself for a turn or two scourging his enemies. That sounds enough like wild magic to me

So sorcerers are confirmed to be immune to ninjas? :D
