Sorcerer in PHB II: Rich Baker says a little

The context was the 3e spell lists taking up most of the room, and wanting more than one class to use each spell.... iirc.

That said, since all classes get a relatively equal share of the room in the PH for their powers, all classes are casters.
I know, I twisted it from "spellcaster" to "class". Wanted to get the quote in a bit too badly I think.

As a sidenote, I've just perused Keep on the Shadowfell. Most character powers have an effect if they hit and a lesser (but still beneficial effect) if they miss. I think it'd be cool if wildmagery powers had not only this, but an enhanced effect on a crit (other than max damage), a detrimental effect on a natural 1, and a neutral (but unique) effect if the roll exactly hits the AC or defense number in question.

I'm thinking that no, because it would be a drag on combat what with all the bookkeeping. Instead, I think the sorcerer will probably be one of those hybridish classes, wherein they use their powers to alter the battlefield and, incidentally, get a bonus that makes them more effective in melee. In other words, because their fluff is that it's natural power rather than study, they'll be less squishy than a wizard.

Aye.

It makes total sense for a dragon to do that to various humanoid tribes that worship it, in order to "Bless" them with magical spellcasters. Or to create super-soldiers (see the half-dragon troll).
The dragons of D&D were always pervert. Sodomists, who rather prefered to do it with midgets, sentient rocks, air, devils, trolls, oozes, hags, horses, turtles, elves, fishes, plants, insect and other beings you don't want to think about instead procreating with their own kind.

On the other hand, some class should take on the 3e sorcerer’s “role”. That is an intuitive, non-vancian, non-bookish (or wandish, or any silly implement and school) spellcaster who can be a blaster but doesn’t have to.
It would probably take, like, five minutes to design a wizard variant that doesn't have the spellbook or implement dependence. Here, I'll do it right now:

Sometimes a child is born with a natural talent for the arcane, wielding wizardly powers without study or training.

Gain: +1 enhancement bonus per three levels to attack and damage rolls for any spell with the Implement keyword. This bonus only applies when you do not use an implement.

Lose: The spellbook class feature. You will choose your dailies like every other class and you will like it.
