Sorcerer in PHB II: Rich Baker says a little

Excellent. Another Arcane controller. Odds are we'll also get a Psionic Controller and a Primal controller.

(And a Divine controller too. That would be cool).

I like controllers.

A controller in DnD is like a controller on an xbox. Slow, weak, and doesn't do exactly whats promised, but heavy enough that you can pick it up and use it to bludgeon the guy beside you.

I think the new Sorc is going to be a cross between Wizard and Wilder. You don't get the fire armor effect immediately, you need to do the wilder thing (I lost my PsH a long time ago) to get the effect. And I think we should hope for more then just self-affecting bonuses; perhaps extended spell effects, or just simply extra effects partially unrelated to the original spell.

I think I'd prefer the sorcerer be a Primal controller. But who knows? Maybe moving it to Arcane opens up space for a spirits-shaman-y primal controller. But then again, why would two primal controllers be a bad thing and two arcane controllers be a good thing?

I think by Wild Magery, he means the Wild Mage from 2e. You know, the "Cast a spell and it might have a weird effect".

Although a Psionic Handbook style wilder (that doesn't suck) + Wild mage would be very intriguing.

Dollars to donuts the Shaman is a leader. I suspect the Primal controller will likely be doing things like earthquakes/Entangles/tidal waves and such "Nature based large effects". But I think there's room for more than one primal controller, sure. I think one that summons hordes of animals would be really cool. "Locusts, ATTACK!"

Well from what we know from Races and Classes. Sorcerers have secondary effects from their Spells, but it comes in different forms that show the lack of control they have/how much magic is part of them.

One example was after firing a fireball, the sorcerer is engulfed in magical flames that scorch enemies that attack the sorcerer.
That's pretty nifty.

Inconvenient for entertaining guests though.

I personally hated the whole dragon bestiality thing. I'm hoping it's gone in 4e. That was some rank fluff I never used and never will.

Well they surely can come up with something better on the "official side", but myself I think I'm gonna continue the bloodline way, right for the bestiality: it's good in a gritty world like mine to get the characters discover there's a whole fey-rape-industry in rich empires in order to replenish the ranks of the sorcerers, especially when they're the only kind of arcane spellcasters, since magic hasn't found a way to be written yet... :D Yes, in my world, the Wizard was the only banned class.
