Sorcerers, polymorph, and spells oh my!

IIRC the best spell for area affect used to be Sunburst. Although it is "only" an 80ft radius burst now for 6d6 damage + blinding, it used to be 10ft/level radius albeit only for a miserable 3d6 damage.
Bah. You want a great army killer? Try SNA spells. Air elementals can take out an army of peons at an incredible pace ... and keep doing it round after round after round. Their whirlwind ability is only limited by their volume and they can toss stiffs out freely. All they have to do is mow over foes and watch them fail their saving throws and die. As I was designing one large scale battle for a campaign, I realized that one greater air elemental could kill all 2,000 enemies (basic goblins) with little chance of being killed.

80' radius? Try an entire army spread out over a quarter mile.

bah, druids got the market cornered and aerial surprise attacks.

Druid with natural spell as a bird, casts call lightning (somewhere away). Flies onto a branch near target, and suddenly bolts of lightning start striking the target with no indication the bird is doing it. Target dies, and bird flies away, and no ones the wiser.

No offense, but were you raised Amish or something?
No offense, but did you consider that people might exist in the little section of the world beyond US borders, and not have seen "The Wizard of Oz" :D?
