Speed Conversion

Hey, all.

What does a Speed 12 equate to in v.3.5 terms?

While flipping through Dragon 241, it noted that a creature moved at "Speed 12." Dragon 241 was from November 1997, so I imagine it was using AD&D 2nd Edition stats.

Thanks, sorry to bother you guys withthis.

12 is the standard moving rate in AD&D.

since 30 is the standard moving rate in 3.5e, the creature will have base move 30.

For the calculators among us:

3.5e speed = (AD&D speed ) *10 / 4.

Note: take care with such conversions. Dwarfs in AD&D had base speed 6!

If you want to be sure, find an existing 3.5 creature with comparable stats.

Only in heavy armor. All AD&D PC races had a base move of 12".

Otherwise, agreed that the conversion factor is MVx5/2 (round to nearest 5 ft.)

You are absolutely right.

I checked in the Monster Manual, but the speed listed there already assumes the dwarf is wearing armor I guess.

Thanks

Very cool. Thanks guys, this is helpful. The formula is interesting. I guess the obvious thing to do was compare creatures of different rules sets, but I was unsure how drastic some changes may have been.

Anyway, thanks again.
