Star Trek: The Animated series...

This just came out on DVD, and I rented the first disc. I had vaguely remembered seeing this when I was younger, but I don't remember any of it...

Anyway, I have to say, other than some of the voice acting, it's really really good. Especially the more Tribbles episode. Real nice starship battle.

Also nice that there are actual aliens. Not just people with fruit glued to their foreheads, or dyed another color and given beards or funky antennae

I have most of them on VHS so won't be picking up the DVD. The best part about the series is that most of the scripts were written by Classic Trek writers and most of the original cast do the voices. (Plus almost all of the other voices in the series are supplied by James Doohan and Majel Barrett.)

I remember seeing it first run. It was definately ahead of it's time in terms of animation scripting. Too bad it didn't have more than one season.

One of the episodes (the one with the Kizin, "The Slaver Weapon") is a pretty straightforward adapatation of a classic Larry Niven story "The Soft Weapon".

IMHO, they should really consider making more of these. If they can get most of the old cast together for a DirecTV commercial, surely they can get most of them for a cartoon.

Yeah, he wrote that adaptation. Quick turnaround, I bet :)
