Star Wars – The Clone Wars: Kaminoan Incident

"Nope, I have everything that I need." the kushiban female answered Tal, patting what used to be a toolbelt but had become her collar. It really did hold everything she needed, a couple food pills, a comlink, a credit chip, her mini-aqua breather, and a clip for her saber in the back.

"I don't really have anything to bring with me, my treasures will be here when I get back," she chitters, reffering to the little things she had picked up along her adventures with her Master, A Gornt egg, a nerf-hide bed, and all manner of other Knick nacks. She gives a tiny shrug and starts pacing along his shoulders, going behind his head, sometimes jumping over it. "I would love to accompany you."

After the six Jedi companions gathered in the audience hall outside the Council Chambers each hears the telepathic voice of Master Yoda, giving them permission to enter. Once inside each of them can see that only Master Yoda and Windu are present.

"Come Jedi, your assignments for you, have we."

As the Six Jedi nervously line up before the Jedi Grandmasters, Master Windu speaks.

"Under normal circumstance each of you would be given missions in fitting with your skills and interests, however these are not normal times. This war is stretching our resources to the limit. Therefore you will be assigned more dangerous assignments then Jedi of you status would normally receive."

"Mind what you have all learned. Aid you, it can."

Master Windu touches a control on his chair that causes the glass windows to darken and a holographic map of the galaxy to appear within the room.

Master Windu Speaks. "Each of you knows of Kamino, the source of the Republic's Clone Army, recent intelligence has given us reason to believe that the Separatists have acquired cloning technology from the Kaminoans." He presses another button causing a life-sized image of a Kaminoan to appear. "This is Doctor Lan Chu, a geneticist and expert in cloning technology. He is missing and we believe the Separatists may have kidnapped him. Your mission well be to find Lan Chu, and recover him. If he has fallen into the Separatists hands, all cloning knowledge and technology they may have gotten from him is to be destroyed. We cannot allow them to produce clone soldiers for themselves."

"Great ability to work as a team, you all have shown. Continue this, you must, and the Kaminoan, find."

"Go to Kamino and find the trail of the kidnapped scientist. All the information on his kidnapping is here in this datapad. Make haste, and May the Force be you."

Rei let someone else take the datapad, while she thought more about their mission. And as usually, not too shy about making her thoughts known to whoever is around, even if it was Master Mace Windu and Master Yoda.

"Master, why send so many Jedi after one scientist?" the young Jedi spoke up, much to the horror of her surrounding friends. Though for this appearance, she had wrapped herself more conservatively in a brown outer robe with a thick black leather belt.

"Wouldn't it alarm the Kaminoans to see six Jedi Knights appearing at their doorstep? We'd look like a small army." We would be a small army she thought wryly to herself.

Zak accepted the datapad from Master Windu with a bow from the neck. He listened to the instructions and attempted to commit them to memory – absorbing both the things that were said and the things that weren’t. He was mildly surprised that the six would be traveling together.

The only reasons Zak could consider for so many Jedi was primarily twofold. First, the council expected a degree of trouble such that six Jedi knights were necessary. The mission must be such that much stronger Jedi should be sent but were not available due to the War. Second, the six were being groomed for something else, something only the Jedi council could foresee. That would have to be the case for the Council not to separate the friends before even stronger bonds could be formed.

Zak was curious what the reasoning was for the pairing, and wasn’t really surprised when Rei spoke up on that very subject. Zak was satisfied that the Force would provide were he to need to know. Perhaps Rei’s question was the way the Force would provide.

Hmmm, interesting concept. . . .

This was unexpected, but very welcome news.
Kyle looked around the room, giving each of his friends a comforting smile. At the same time his mind tried to piece together why all six were being sent together. Were they expected to encounter such forces that casualties could occur? Was it meant as a show of force so that the Separatists knew how serious the Jedi were? And why would the Masters not tell them why they were being let to work as a group?
Kyle put his hand on Zak's shoulder as he accepted the data pad with their mission details. This mission would prove a greater test then the trials and Kyle did not want to see anything happen to any of his friends.
Kyle looked back at Master Yoda and Master Windu and proudly stated, "We will not fail you Masters. Our group will act as one in the Force." Just as he said that he realized what Rei had just asked. "Oh no," he thought to himself. "The little bantha pack is off to a great start."

Jaq'lene couldn't help but letting her flow change to its golden contentment pattern, she wasn't going to be forced to leave her packmates, her best friends. To the tiny Kushiban these people were family, one that she would have not truly been able to give up. She had heard stories about some Kushiban that had died from forced seperation, and she could well imagine it if she had been forcibly seperated from Rei or here other litter-mates. She rubs Tal's shoulders and neck happily with her tail, almost as if she is scent marking him, before jumping over to Zak's shoulder where she unconsciously repeats the pattern as she reads the datapad from his shoulder.

"What form of transport will we be using? I am not a pilot Master Yoda, Master Windu. I know the others are fighter pilots. Can we use a transport instead?" the kushiban female chittered curiously, looking up from the datapad in the Duro's hand.

Dyr large ears began to twitch nervously, as he realized he was being sent on a very dangerous mission, one likely requiring his lightsabers skills, poor as there were, as much as his unique healing talents. He was no investigator and surely six Jedi Knights were overkill. The Masters words puzzled Dyr greatly.

The two Jedi Masters allow the silence after young knights asked their questions to stretch out uncomfortably. Then Yoda breaks the silence with a sigh.

"Sheltered they are, reliance on the force, turned their minds to mush it has." Yoda sadly shakes his head as Mace nods.

"The public do not view the Jedi as they once did."

"Badly is the war going. Blaming the Jedi, the Chancellor is."

"No longer can we operate in the open, too many of us have been targeted by Separatist sympathizers and killed. The people of the Republic no longer cooperate with us."

"In disguise you must go. Your skills as Jedi, hidden must be."

"You will pose as smugglers, traveling to Kamino in search of employment. Under this guise you should be able to investigate Doctor Chu's disappearance without interference. Only the Prime Minister and his aide, Taun We will know your true purpose. To that end you will be given a Corellian YT-1300 freighter, a gift to the Jedi Order from a thankful citizen. As for keeping you six together, all you need to know is that is what the Council has decided. Go now you must not delay any longer or the trail will grow cold."

"May the Force Be with you."

Kyle stands proudly although the words he has just heard saddens him greatly. He knew the Jedi Order was not at it's strongest, but that they must operate covertly within the Republic, that is ridiculous. But his Masters have spoken and he will complete the mission they have given him.

He can feel the uneasiness of Dyr and knows this news will not sit well with his friends. This could become a major blow to moral if it is left unanswered. "Do not concern yourselves with our assignment Master Yoda, Master Windu. We will not fail you."
Kyle hopes that his confident words will help inspire confidence in his friends. "We do not need any doubts as we begin this trip," he thinks to himself.

Undercover Jedi? That sounds so amazing! Hmm.... Her mind already has moved to how to look less like a Jedi and how to hide her beloved lightsabers.

"May the Force be with you, Master Yoda, Master Windu."

Nodding to the others and bowing respectfully to the Jedi Masters, Rei turned around and began to head toward her quarters. Time to pack up, head to the ship, and devise a game plan! How incredible was it that they got an assignment where they could all work together.

Despite the excitement, her mind dwelled on the things the masters had said. So dangerous was this time for the Jedi that they had to travel like this? What further things had happened to make it so terrible? And the war...such a war that should not have been and yet was with a Sith lose upon the galaxy yet to be found.

A Sith master or apprentice?

Her body shuddered inwardly at the thought of facing such a powerful and evil foe, yet at the same time the excitement of testing her mettle against such a warrior excited her in many ways despite herself.

Remember what the master told you...remember.
