I love this game. I have to admit Ive been getting jaded as a gamer, and have overlooked quite a few releases as of late. But this baby.. First Sw game in a while that just sucked me in. The story, the voice acting, the combat- it made me pull out my SWRPG and look it over again.

But the best thing is that you are really the center of the game, not just hovering above running a bunch of characters like in Baldurs Gate or NWN. Very immersive. I only wish the frame rate didnt stutter so much, but its a minor peeve.

I hope Wizards does a web enhancement or something about this Old Republic era, like the Silicon spotlights they do for fantasy video games in Dragon. I love this time period. And Bioware has done such a good job of interweaving "extended universe" stuff into the game.

Hmm I wonder when Bioware will release the sequel ? With the sales numbers their doing Im sure there will be one like BG2.

Not good enough! I demand a full sized hardcover sourcebook, FRCS style!

Well, if we don't get something that big I would at least like a sourcebook. I am running a Star Wars adventure right now that I started right before this game came out. It is set about 1000 years before the Rise of the Empire. It would be great to have some source material for it.... :)

When I say FRCS style I don't mean size, but the design and quality of course. Open up with relevant game rule information for the setting and spend most of the space on detailing the setting. Of course the longer the better, but I don?t need a 320 page book with a 4 pint font to be happy.

What I do not want is another Rebellion Era or NJO style sourcebook that is little more than a detail timeline recounting what happen the books/novels/games, if I want to know what happened in them I?ll read or play them as appropriate.

A pox on you for living in Connecticut!

Too true. I would take a 144 page sourcebook with an overview of some key plantetary systems, a few new classes like Jedi Sentinel (!!), the basic timeline and major NPC's, vehicles and the like statted out. Throw in some more about the Mandelorians, Jedi, Sith and Republic along with the major players of that period and I think we are all set. :)

If I wasn't such a stickler for canon I would feel much better about running something in the "current" Star Wars universe. But the movies and novels (which I know aren't canon) get in the way, for me. Actually, I'm not too fond of the NJO anyway. I'd much rather play in the Old Republic Era. You know - the time when Sith wasn't such a four letter word. :D

Seriously. I would love to find a few more Star Wars players. I have three right now but only one really gets what I am trying to do. :(

I'm not at all and I like the NJO, because it got away from the apocalyptic trilogy of the month trend that jumped around the timeline, which I fear they will go back to. I also like that it's one long running story that's taken years to develop (story time and real time).

Not only wouldn't it bother me to play in a game, or run one if I felt I had the skill, that broke canon/continuity I would enjoy it.

Set it up to run at the same point as say SW for example and see where the players go with it. If their actions change how things happened in the movies run with it. If they come up with an ingenious plan to kill the Emperor prematurely, so be it. If their incompetence destroys the rebellion, well maybe the next one will do better.

My main interest in an Old Republic setting is just for something different, we have enough info on the original trilogy to last us until we die of old age. Do we really need another Rogue Squadron game rehashing the same bloody missions we?ve seen in three other games already (yes I know it?s actually different this time, I?m being grouchy)?

Timeline:

Saturday - While out shopping, Valanthe notes that our local Target only has a rain-check voucher where KOTOR should be. Later, Scorch drops by, bringing his copy of KOTOR with him. We sit down, I create a character and play for about 20 minutes or so (it's late, by that point).

Sunday Morning - I bring home the Sunday paper, and Valanthe and I do our morning ritual of reading through the ads. Opines she to me: "Hmph. Best Buy is selling KOTOR for the same as everyone else."

I reply: "Well, sure. It's a highly-anticipated game and it's getting good ratings. Maybe in a month or two, someone 'll put it on sale as a door-buster, but everyone's going to have it for the same price."

She: "Oh. I gues you'll just have to go to BestBuy, then."

Me: "Huh? Why?"

She: "Because I want KOTOR. TODAY."

And that was pretty much that.

Sunday Afternon I buy KOTOR. Valanthe started playing yesterday, and I suspect we won't get to Shadows of Undrentide for a bit, yet. :)

Valanthe the Sleepless is my wife, though she only posts rarely (as often as not to our Story Hour). Scorch, dravot, Zad and Argent are all players of mine, and post in varying degrees. Only Argent posts with the same frequency as I.
