Well, that didn't go anything like I expected. But now I understand why the kid gets so far ahead of Rush so easily.
Rush wouldn't recognize a clue if it was nailed to his forehead by a pneumatic nailgun. That guy is stubbornly slow on the uptake, and takes hints like he thinks he might contract consumption from em or something.
Still, Jackson gave one clue I think that might point to who was behind the original espionage and sabotage and attack. I don't know yet though if the clue came from Destiny via the chair, or if Rush already has surmised it or is involved.
But truth be told I'm still not sure what Rush's true motivations are regarding Destiny. I thought this episode might resolve it, since much of it was entirely in Rush's head, there was little chance of it being discovered by another unless the chair makes recordings of interactivity sessions.
There were some good background clues, but the episode sure didn't resolve (or even disclose) anything overtly.
I liked the episode though. But it was kind of a departure from their usual method of disclosing a good deal about (maybe too much) personal motivations in single episodes.
Still, Rush is one of the more secretive characters on the show, along with Young. Maybe they're just gonna keep playing him as the slow hand.

I am not sure what you talking about above. I did phase out for about 10 minutes in the middle while he was ignoring everyone around him, but don't think that matters. What clue are you talking about? The original alien pod from the pilot episode? Icarus base blowing up?
I loved the dungeon crawl and the party being split.
What original acts of espionage, sabotage, and betrayal?Anyways, I thought it was a fascinating episode. I am also surprised at what happened to Eli and the others at the end. I have no idea what is going to happen from here on with them. The ruins are interesting in of themselves.
Most of all, this episode really shed a lot of light on Rush's motivations and way of thinking. There is the strong implication that Rush was so adamant on going through with dialing the 9th Chevron and is so obsessed with the Destiny because he doesn't want everything he and his wife went through to have been for nothing. The episode does a lot to humanize Rush's callous personality while condemning some of his behavior at the same time. He is definitely a man of deep contradictions. I still think he is one of the best characters in the show.
On another note, the looks TJ and the scientist threw Young when he asked if pulling Rush out of the machine would be lethal were priceless. The way he phrased that question sounded hilariously bad.

I'll need a bit to digest the show, but aside from Chloe's BFF speech to Eli, I generally liked it, even if the pacing was slow. I found myself checking the clock and wondering how much time had passed halfway through.
I'm not sure if it's what they were going for, but there were two ways I could see taking Jackson and Rush's wife (Gloria, had to look it up). The obvious one is that Jackson is Rush's career and Gloria is Rush's life. The more interesting one, and the one that jives more with the title, is that Jackson represents the Ancients and Gloria represents Humanity. I like the idea that Jackson was actually a part of Destiny talking to Rush.
I thought the answer would be in the music; I missed all the references to 46, though some were obscure.
My favorite part of the episode was Rush in the classroom, basically describing why, basically, he hates the entire Stargate program. It also provided some insight into why he dialed Destiny; he needed to prove to himself that he didn't fail, despite Eli solving the gate.
Doesn't the Kino have some sort of automated tracking or something? I would think it would keep track of where it went. Ah well, minor quibble.
Icarus blowing up; fake Daniel Jackson mentioned a mole in the Lucien Alliance that found the planet. It suggests either they were set-up, or that there was a similar mole at Icarus base for the LA.

Ahhh. That was and is so far down on my radar. If the show actually dealt with it somehow back at Stargate command, perhaps I'd qualify that as 'cool' or 'useful' but for SGU it is just a footnote, or throw away line, since a footnote can lead you to another interesting book.
Though I suppose it is impossible for Destiny to even know about the Lucien Alliance or Gloria or Daniel except by digging around in Rush's head, so that part is either cool because the chair has more interactive-ness than the Col. O'Neill head-grabbing info-transfer version OR it is just Rush's imagination playing tricks on him.
What I mean is the clue about the Lucian Alliance may just be Rush's hunch, not really what happened.

I enjoyed this episode. It gave interesting insights into Rush's head and motivation.
And they didn't neatly resolve the entire thing in one episode.
I predict that we might see more about Grier's past in the next episode. There was a tiny scene where they showed what looked like a young Grier in confined space - maybe we'll learn more about that next time. (Unless they had planned to put it in this episode and had to cut it?). We'll see.

My impression was that it was just to note that he was claustrophobic, that something happened in his childhood that created that claustrophobia, and that this fear was the real reason he was pushing so hard not to go underground earlier, not that he actually thought it was a waste of time or a bad idea.

Yes, so far we basically know or can at least reasonable assume. But I suspect we'll find out more next time.
