Not as good as Light, but enjoyable. I liked the fact that I felt as though anything could happen, and I wasn't sure who might die. Unlike the other Stargate shows, death isn't something reserved for background mooks or very special episodes.

There is probably a bald-on-bald smack down coming up...which begs a question. How are those guys keeping their heads shaved?

I said to myself, "hmm, water, wonder if they'll use the Abyss type route. Nah, we'd expect that". I guess I was half-way right. Little shards of sand/ice/bugs who make faces is pretty close. I wonder if they are the reason the desert planet was a desert. My guess is that Hoth will be consumed like a smorgasbord.

But onto Stargate continuity. Are those suits similar to the suits used by the rogue Asgardians from Stargate Atlantis who were killing the Wraith with the super weapon?

I as wondering about that myself. Not sure.

Would rogue Asgardians fit into the flavor of this show? They would certainly upstage Rush, and being knowledgeable about Destiny is his gimmick. Maybe their influence will be shown, but I don't think they will make an appearance.

Our first confirmed alien life form! I wonder if we'll see more of them, because it feels pretty unresolved, considering that the aliens seemed to attempt to communicate. (And yes, very "abyss-like")

Also a plus- these aliens are really alien. Not humans bumpy foreheads or exotic hair style.

I think overall I would like the show better if it was NOT branded w/ the Stargate moniker.

The idea itself is very cool, people stranded on a technological flying dutchman.

The problem is that the show is not attempting to do what the other shows in the franchise have done, and sometimes the disconect is disconcerting.

I was glad the alien made a re-appearance, as the unresolved nature of the alien previously was a pet peeve.

I was also amused by Eli's comment re: the Alien and the water loss being obviously connected....as I was frustrated minutes earlier by the fact that some smart people did not make the logical leap.

As for character deaths.....I think it still fits the Stargate model....has anyone died that was not tele-graphed for death, or a relatively ancillary character....the answer is no.

I hope and kinda of feel the show needs to kill Col Young. I am not enamored of the actor, and in terms effectively dealing with circumstances and Dr. Grumpy Scotsman, the young LT was MUCH better.

Plus it would give some great tension.

The music of the show is a bit jarring, again precisely because SG's in general not a lot of music. The show also has a very low key feel.....things happen but the shows are paced, and plotted in such a way that I never feel tension.....which is very unlike previous SG shows...even SG-1.

As for the suits I too thought they looked like the Asgardian suits, but I chalk that up more to budget and re-using as too any connection.
I am waiting for an alien species that has encounter Destiny to dial aboard.

I was assuming they were just evolved to fit into the desert environment. Obviously anything that lives in a desert will probably hoard water (assuming they need water at all). So I thought they were a product of the desert and not vice versa.

The way I figure it, these aliens evolved in a very arid environment. It makes sense they would have evolved a way to super absorb water so they could maximize any supply they found. I wouldn't be surprised if their desert ecosystem was balanced in some way.

These aliens were taken out of that ecosystem and introduced to an abundant source of water which caused accelerated growth.

Yeah, and that guy has it coming. He's a trouble maker. So are some of those scientists, it looks like they're getting more and more paranoid, but they don't seem to understand that Destiny is still pretty much in a crisis situation, and the guys running things don't have sinister motives going on.

Eli's ability to think quickly seems to be his greatest strength so far. He has no experience with the Stargates or Ancient tech or anything like that, but he has been able to think outside the box. Learning how to use the Kinos, using the power in the shuttle, and even the Kino sled in this episode.

Because, I don't know, that guy doesn't have a contract for the whole season? There are reasons why they don't bump of the main characters, one is actor contracts, and two, they don't want to irritate too many fans that might actually like the charater.

I don't agree. I thought Young was going to die back in the first episode, but he's also the best person to have in command. Scott doesn't have the experince to be a leader, and I don't know if he really has enough focus to take charge yet either. Look how he was too busy spending time with Chloe early in the episode to come to the gate room when ordered. Wray might be able to run things too is necessary, and Young seems to be relying on her at least with the civilians. Rush wouldn't be able to effectively take charge, he's far too anti-social for everyone to respect him, and there's already a great deal of resentment towards him for dialing that 9th chevron instead of Earth.

I am just wondering if the aliens are not a form of terra-forming life form, convert water into the atmosphere or such.

Figure the next one will be dealing with food.

They also need to start showing us more of the ship!
