Sunless Citadel 3.5e Campaign Recruiting!

Okay, time's up. Soulforge, sorry if the reason you couldn't make it to the boards was a good one, but regardless I'm going to have to kick you out of the group.

Welcome to the party, Jayaint! : )

Ferrix, you're now added to the list of alternates.

Dr. Anomalous, Scout it is. My emai| add is IndyPendant(big-ol'at symbol)hotmail(dotty)com.

Voadam, I've got another long paragraph for you. (I seem to be a doing a lot of those lately...: ) Basically, I'm nixing the extra armour/weapons from Mielikki idea. The 3.5e druid is noticeably more powerful than any other base class available, excepting only the cleric. In 3.0e though, the druid frankly sucked. And the FRCS is a 3.0e book. Here's where I suspect that whole Mielikki thing came from: a) some moronic 1c-per-word hack FR writer decided in one of his novels to have a druid of Mielikki in chain mail (I admit, this is *pure* speculation on my part--maybe they really did just give it to druids for the heck of it); b) WotC tried to incorporate this into their FRCS book; and c) they thought essentially 'Hey, why not? The druid's underpowered anyways!' Worshipping Mielikki (or Silvanus) is perfectly fine. Getting increased armour and weapon use for free isn't, sorry.

As to the feats, it is possible that you could have them. I'll need you to email them to me though, at the address I've given for Dr. Anomalous, and I'll decide then.

Shaundakal, out. Illmater, in.

I've decided that NAME FORTHCOMING has been lately involved with Illmater's monastic order The Broken Ones. (This allows, or at least did in FRCS 3.0 free multiclassing with Cleric, divine disciples, etc.)

His story is fairly straightforward, really. He was a commoner, a simple dockworker trudging through life's drudgery. He saw a friend of his and his family attacked by some thugs on the street one day. He tried to jump in and help them but was not only ineffective but hurt badly.

He awoke outside of Westgate somewhere in a temple of Illmater. Apparently the thugs had taken him with them after they killed his friend and their family. They had dumped him off on the side of the road somwhere hoping for his end, too. But a passing group of monks grabbed him and brought him to their temple of the Broken Ones.

After he awoke, he stayed on helping out and after peeking in on one of the monks' martial classes; tried to join. They allowed him in and he took to the basics easily enough, but everyone involved could tell that he wasn't cut out for the rigors of monkdom. But his devotion was apparent, so one of the clerics to Illmater passing through took him under his wing and put him on a more divine, spiritual path.

He has set out to find his fortune through Illmater's graces, and has (fill in the reason or way he has hooked up with said group.) He has vowed to be ready to help people in need, from that day forward, no matter the circumstances. Lawful Good, maybe a tinge of Neutal Good when it comes to blustery, blowhard beauracracy that doesn't help the people.

Sound okay, Indy?

The only odd thing that i would like to persue, if possible, is whether or not we could see about maybe getting a divine familiar for him. Mystic Wanderer (Magic of Faerun, 3.0) PrC received one at 2nd level. Just curious. Had an old 3.0 cleric in FR that had an eyeball beholderkin for a familiar (with improv. familiar feat) and it was one of the coolest aspects of meeting new people in-game. Little tentacles peeking over my shoulder.. lol. Would like to see if maybe I could get into the exalted stuff and take some kind of celestial familiar, of course this would be at pretty high levels, so no rush.

Just checking in to let you know I'm following developments. I've actually put together a character who is a 1st-level fighter, but could easily multiclass as either a rogue, ranger, bard or even a couple levels of sorcerer depending on what's needed at the time.

I'll keep tabs on what's going on. :)

I was constructing my character on my girlfriend's computer, and will have to wait to post the sheet until she gets ti to me, probably late, late this evening/tomorrow morning. I would also like to point out for posterity's sake that the majority of my posts will have to (by necessity) be made in the evening to post-midnight time due to work and life schedules. Sorry if this is an inconveniance.

Jayaint, that sounds fine--except maybe what I'll do is have you be in Oakhurst for a while. Without giving too much away, my thought is that you heard rumours of something going wrong in the area around that town, and have come by to check things out, or something. We'll see. : )

(Edit: Oops! : ) Dr. Anomalous, got the scout you sent me. It looks fine, except for two things: I assume that they get 6 skill points/level. And...they get the abilities of the rogue to disable devices--but not the skill?!? I remember a post debating that here on ENWorld a while back; consider that houseruled in. The Scout has Disable Device and Open Lock. (And I'd recommend taking them, since you'll be the only one in the party who can...: )

Looks like we're in the char submission stages now. So please get them in! If we're all ready, we could start as early as this Friday morning...

According to the book, its 8 per level. No sweat either way, just let me know if I should use 6 instead. As for DD not being there. According to Andy Collins, the omission is intentional. I don't mind that house rule at all, though. Let me know. :)

No prob on the mielikki armor, it only would have allowed studded leather and metal shields anyway, I think it was solely there because she is patroness of rangers and it says her druids often multiclass with rangers, not because there was a twink out desire.

I'll try and get a typed out version of the exalted, nymph's kiss, and vow of poverty feats when I get home tonight.

Exalted is basically power ups for good so any good character can get supernatural powers of good like the paladin flavor text.

I think the basic vow feat gives you a small bonus on diplomacy and is a prereq for later ones.

Vow of poverty means give all your money to good, and not own any items of your own, in return you get powers and bonus feats at every level that are roughly equivalent to a PC's wealth of equivalent level. An OK deal for a monk, druid, or sorcerer, but significantly less so for other classes.

Nymph's kiss gives extra skill points and resistance against fey powers and maybe another power I'm forgetting. It has a prereq of a fey's love. I thought of this one as the mielikki entry says her priests spend a night a month calling up dryads or treants and serving them. Seemed a potential tie in with dryads.

I haven't read the exalted deeds stuff in a long while and all that is from memory. I'm running a game with a druid with vow of poverty right now and he's having a blast with the roleplay part of giving away his money.

I don't see your e-mail (I have sigs blocked so I don't know if it is there) and didn't see it in your profile.

(Edit: And yes, I'd prefer if people posted their chars here, Sorrow.)

Nah, my email's been put up twice so far in this post, but I'll do it a third time, here...: )

Voadam, definitely send me the Exalted feats. I'll need a complete writeup as they look in the books, word for word, please (although flavour text isn't required.) There may be two of you taking them; I'll have to check them out carefully before ruling...: )

Dr. Anomalous, I've been waffling a *lot* on how to rule regarding the scout. The abilities, plus 8 skill points/level, bothers me; it seems borderline too much compared to a rogue. But, since I can't quite decide, I've decided instead to let you be my guineapig. You get the Scout as written, except that Disable Device and Open Lock are class skills. That won't change for your char, but seeing it in action will help me decide what to do for future players.

Jayaint, I see an error in your char; you have your flurry of blows listed without the -2/-2 penalty to attacks. As to the Divine Familiar thing: I think that would be fine--but it would cost you two feats. One to get a 'regular' familiar, and one to get the enhanced familiar. If you were willing to spend two feats on it, I would then let you have an enhanced divine familiar based on your character level--although I'm not sure I would be willing to let you have an Archon. Let me chew on that one...: ) But you have to commit the two feats. I can't justify one feat for a 'regular' familiar, I'm afraid.

Now. For everyone. Based on the concepts you have so far seen, I'm going to list a few of my relevent 1298198371 house rules you can use if you'd like, here below. These are rules that are not found in any books I've seen. The next post after this one will have a list of house-ruled feats--also missing from any books I have read--from my file that lists 200 or so approved feats...: )
1) (Edit)Scrolls and potions can be scribed at *either* 1 day/1000gp *or* 1 hour/100gp. --Minimum 1 hour per potion or scroll. Oils, dusts, etc etc count as potions for this purpose.

2) Monks and Paladins do not have that stupid can-never-raise-again rule when multiclassing.

3) The Amulet of Mighty Fists has had its cost reduced by 2/3. (+1 for 2k, +2 for 8k, etc etc)

4) Item Creation Feats no longer have a caster level as a prerequisite. Two people can collaberate together to create any magic item: one person with the feat, the other with (all) the prerequisites. This does not reduce the time to create the item, and both people must be present the entire time.

5) I tend to take a relaxed attitude towards Magic Item Creation. Spend the time, the xp, and the coin in supplies, and you can have (almost!: ) anything SRD, short of artifacts.
There's probably more, but I can't think of them atm. Anyways, next come the feats. Enjoy!
