Shields provide Shield AC, while a breastplate provides Armor AC, different types so they stack.

As for the spell, it depends. The Shield spell provides shield AC, so it wouldn't stack with wearing a shield. Mage Armor provides Armor AC, so it doesn't stack with the breastplate. Protection From Evil provides a Deflection Bonus to AC, so it would stack with a shield and breastplate. Another spell that provided Natural AC would stack with all of this, and another spell that provides a luck bonus would as well. Insight BOnuses, Dodge bonuses, Profane bonuses, Enhancement bonuses, one of each of all of these would stack up. But two deflection bonus spells would not stack, etc.

If a bonus is mentioned and it's not labeled as a specific kind, then it's usually an Untyped bonus. You can have as many of those in combination as you can get. A quick Google search brings up the Shadowstaff as such an object to provide an untyped AC bonus.

What does that have to do with the price of tea in china? You know how bonuses work, I know how bonuses work, AC bonuses of different types stack, AC bonuses of same types don't stack. DR isn't a bonus, nor is it a penalty, so your question would seem to have no bearing on our debate.
