Sure Striking?

I was thinking if the sure striking bonus for weapons is overpowerd. The bonus is +1 ,and in my opinion, has to be at least +2.

makes the weapon count as +5 for the purposes of defeating DR.

*shrug* Personally, I've got no problem with it, particularly with the DR revisions coming out with revised edition.

Well, I didn´t see the revised edition, but in my last battle the spell stone skin was a piece of cake for the fighters. And if I have 2 fighters with sure striking and a cleric in 6th lvl, they easily defeat an iron golem.

Such as...? (Just curious)

The Metallian

Look at most of the monsters.

+1 and +2 DR are the most common types. +3 is more rare, and usually found only on powerful outsiders and dragons. +4 is very rare, and I think is on powerful celestials. +5 is on the Tarrasque and Stoneskin.

Since most of the monsters have +1 or +2, sure striking will be most worth it in extreme cases. Your base +1 weapon cuts through alot of DR, and if you enchanted it to +2, then you'd not only have an additional bonus to attack and damage, but you'd also be able negate most DR.

Making Sure Striking a +2 property means that, instead of a +3 sword, they could have a +1 surestriker. The sure striking weapon is at -2 to attack and damage, less hardness, etc. In exchange, the weapon can kill celestials, Tarrasques, and guys with Stoneskin easier. Beating stoneskin isn't worth a -2 to hit and damage.

I agree, but what I mean is the bonus +1 of Sure Striking, can make a serial killer for the price of 8000 GP´s. My Suggest is to make that type of weapon coast at least 18000 GP`s.

I can't see anyone buying it at more than +1 equivalent. In the majority of practical cases where you don't have a high enough bonus to beat something's DR, an extra +1 on your weapon would have done the trick in the first place. The only common case that's an exception is stoneskin. Is getting past stoneskins worth that much extra? I think not.

If you meant that as a clarification, you're going to have to explain what you mean by "serial killer" in this context.

The Serial Archon Celestial from Fiend Folio has DR 20/+5, but not that many hit points. Sure Striking makes it potentially easy meat for a party of as low a level as 6 or 7.
