We skipped L1 (I didn't fancy deciphering its shoddy presentation)...

I highly recommend giving it a run-out sometime. You can skip the town-of-Restenford part and not miss anything, but the actual dungeon and surrounds really are good value.

And while the slavers as a series has some issues, both A1 and A2 make fine stand-alone adventures. The only thing you might want to do is stick a few more doors in A2 to join some rooms up as without doing so it's very linear (the A-series were all originally tournament modules, and it shows in places).
