Survivor: Palau - Finale! [Spoilers]

John Crichton

First Post
Ian's dive was essentially the end of the game. Katie never had a chance. It would have been interesting to see Tom and Ian face off in the end but the way it turned out simply cemented this season as the best since Season 2. Next season will most certainly be a letdown until they have some characters that are just as interesting.

Congrats to Tom. He certainly earned it, which is more than I can say for a few of the more recent Survivor winners. He won the immunities that he needed to or he was gone. He did what Colby did not: played it until the very end and won the whole thing. It will be interesting to see how far he gets in the next All-Stars.

And my All Stars from this season:

Tom
Steph
Colby
Ian

I thought it was a disappointing end to an otherwise stellar season.

I really wanted to slap Katie...exactly what part of her plan was Ian surrendering to save his conscience? She didn't deserve to be there, and I was fearful that she'd somehow end up winning. I probably would have sworn off the show if she had.

Oh, who am I kidding...I'd have still watched.

Exactly!
I'm glad someone who deserved it won this time.

A good ending I thought, sure I would have liked to seen Ian and Tom at the vote but this Survivor was different and the ending matched its nature, I was pleased.

Clearly, this was one of the best Survivor seasons ever. I could easily see more than the above folks from this show being on a Survivor All-Stars.

Really enjoyed this season altogether- glad Tom won; the only ones I really wanted to win this season were Tom, Stephanie, or Ian. The last couple of episodes, not even Ian, actually.

That was a real disappointment to me- the guy seemed to have no spine, sadly. He had all this guilt about "his conscience" and how he played the game, but... he didn't do anything wrong! Not that I saw, anyway. Sure, he may have said, "yeah, let's vote Tom off", and felt guilty about that when it came out. Okay, worse things have happened. But he let everyone else browbeat him into believing he was some kind of evil person... not to mention that he never once stood up when Katie was berating him and say- "Oh, but let us not forget that *you* agreed to vote Tom off before I did, Katie!"

And then that whole scene on Thursday when he was crying and apologizing for "betraying" Katie- because he didn't take her on a Reward Challenge? "Now I can never trust you again, Ian!" Waah, boo hoo, Miss Drama Queen.

Anyway, I really liked Ian up until he showed how easily whipped he is. And to throw away a million dollars because of what he let the others convince him he did wrong? Ugh.

Looking forward to next season.

My wife Kriskrafts summed up Ian as "A nice guy who doesn't know the first thing about how to play this game". That about sums it up for me as well. And for the very first time the best survivor actually won! I was surprised that the final vote was such a lopsided 6 to 1. Yeah, Katie didn't even deserve that vote but I expected both Gregg and Jen to vote for her and possibly even Ian. I expressed surprise that Coby did, but Kriskrafts pointed out that Tom represented all of the macho harrassing that Coby detested most.

And yes, there will easily be four to six from this Survivor on the next All Stars, which means that the second installment is probably already in the works for Spring 2007. I imagine that we'll see Johnny Fairplay again in that one, despite Jeff Probst's detest of the guy.

In defense of Ian, Survivor is not just challenges, alliances and game play to get you to the end, there is a lot of mental fortitude too; you learn a lot about who you are and end up doing some soul seaching (11 hours on a pole), Ian just was not mentally disciplined and started to crack. I think he was a good man in a bad spot.

All in all, an enjoyable finish to one of the best seasons ever. Tom truly deserved the win and he was very gracious and humbling about it which is true to his personality. I hope next season's Survivor is just as good.
