I like the idea of a Dex check (1d20+dex+1/2 level) vs a DC set by GM.

You mean a Balance/Acrobatic/whatever it's called in Saga check?

That's would I would have done. Balance check DC 15 to avoid ben pulled down.

Things I didn't like about the preview: Looks like acrobatics (aka tumble) is still rolled againast a static DC 15! Boo! Even worse, Rodney said on the WotC boards that it's now DC 15 to tumble *through* an opponents square! Boo, hiss!

Things I liked: Pretty much everything else.
:)

I just *really* wish they'd fixed the static tumble DC thing... it's been around since 3.0 and never been changed. I assume WotC must have a *reason*, but I can't see what it is...

Well, considering that the only people that really are ever in melee in Star Wars games are Jedi...methinks it isn't that big of a deal.

Well, it was changed in D&D3.5 so that the DC was increased by +2 for every person after the first you used Tumble to avoid AoO from, base DC 15 if just Tumbling around, DC 25 if Tumbling through an opponent's occupied square.

Considering that SW is eminently more swashbuckler-friendly than D&D, I have no real problem with a static DC 15 for something like that, especially as it encourages movement, something that standard D&D and RCR Star Wars really didn't do that often (especially once your BAB got high enough for iterative attacks).

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing my Form IV master in action in SECR, since those kinds of flips and tumbles are his bread and butter, and often just got reduced to flavor text and a 2m adjustment.

Well, the only people that routinely engage in melee would be Jedi.

I've seen more than a few Wookiee melee specialists in play, ranging from a grappler with Exotic Weapon Proficiency (humanoids) to use grappled people as impromptu clubs to a pugilistic professional with the Wookiee martial arts from Hero's Guide that drop stormtroopers with a single punch without having to go into a rage.

Yep, one staple in all the previous Star Wars RPG's (not the movies, mind you) have been Wookiee melee fighters. :) Wookiee Soldier with a Vibro-Axe ==> BAD BUSINESS FOR THE OPPOSITION...
