Tales of the Golden Monkey

Just as a heads-up for fans of this 1982 ABC TV show, Tales of the Golden Monkey just got a US release on DVD about a week ago. I actually found this out by accident while looking for rival CBS show Bring 'Em Back Alive, which unfortunately has not had a DVD release. Ah, well.

Fans of the HEX aesthetic will probably love this; both shows were greenlit to try and capitalize on the success of Raiders of the Lost Ark and have a similar feel to them.

Both shows were good. So, of course, they were put on opposite each other and neither did well with the split audience. So, equally of course, the TV execs, in their infinite wisdom, concluded that there was ~no~ audience for such shows and we haven't seen their like since. (Well, there was the cliffhangers thing with three shows running in the same time slot, but it didn't do well either.)

Oh yeah, and I think it was Tales of the Gold Monkey. Originally Tales of the Brass Monkey.
