I don't think even WotC has any clue as to its ECL, or challenge rating for that matter. Course, we won't know until we can fully construct an epic level character from the ELH.

This discussion seems to be mostly theoretical. Regardless of whether the Tarrasque is ECL 80 or 50 or 30 what sort of DM is ever going to let you play the Tarrasque ever. Even under Epic Level rules even under a one shot. Additionally instead of judging just the raw Tarrasque, judge the Tarrasque with the same amount of magic items a 48th level character would have (the minimum ECL given the Tarrasques HD). At that point it getts pretty scary.
