Tennant to Quit as Dr Who

As much I like Craig, there is no way in hell the producers would cast him as the 11th Doctor. He's already playing one iconic character in Bond, you'd burden him w/ the pressures of playing another like the Doctor?

Only in jest.

If I were serious, I'd cast a comedic actor.

Ricky Gervais, perhaps. Graham Norton? Ardal O'Hanlan? Simon Pegg?

Or if they really want to set "Teh Interweb" all a-wobble, they'd cast a minority or female actor in the role. Imagine the speculation about Time Lord biology then.

I think Hugh Laurie would have been good, too, but he's got a hot show right now.

But Richard Coyle could be awesome in the role.

Sad news indeed. Read about it over the weekend. I really liked Tennant's doctor.

That said, rumour has it that Robert Carlysle (Full Monty fame) will be up for the next doctor role. Other names mentioned I think was James Nesbitt (ugh!).

One of my first thoughts on reading about the fact that a new doctor would be required was I wonder what would happen if they cast a woman.

They could be moving that way. Last I heard, one of the rumored front-runners is Paterson Joseph, who's black (and who appeared in Doctor Who before, as Rodrick in the season one two-part finale).

Erm...just to clarify: when I suggested those comedic actors, I wasn't suggesting Dr Who goes slapstick. I just think that most comedic actors have an easier time going dramatic than most dramatic actors have trying to be amusing or quirky.

It would be REALLy weird if, after he'd been established for a couple of years as the Doctor, you caught a rerun of that episode. It'd be like seeing a rerun of an Eccleston episode and seeing Tennant as a supporting actor.

Of course they could take it and develop an episode around it. A 2 Doctor Episode (or if they are lucky a 3 Doctor Episode) where the new Doctor has to deal with some other problem at the same time and has to avoid revealing himself to the old Doctor so he assumes the identity of Rodrick.
