"That's an offensive weapon" (Magic Shield)

Heh, let's see who all gets that quote :)

I'm attempting to design an Offensive Magic Shield, and I'm not sure of some of the mechanics for stacking the magic effects if Shield Spikes aren't used. For instance, could you have a +1/+1 (AC Enhancement/ Damage Enhancement) Bashing Shocking Heavy Shield, and what would its base attack / damage be?

The Bashing ability causes a shield to be treated as a weapon 2 size categories larger and be treated as a +1 weapon, so a medium Heavy Shield would deal 1d8 damage. However, would the +1 from Bashing stack with the +1 Weapon enhancement?

The next question would be, how much would it cost? 4,000 gold for the +2 armor bonus, and 8,000 for the +2 weapon bonus? Or would it count as a +3 weapon due to the Bashing? Plus the price of the shield and Masterwork, of course.

Making a nice Greatsword is so much easier :)

Bashing: A shield with this special ability is designed to perform a shield bash. A bashing shield deals damage as if it were a weapon of two size categories larger (a Medium light shield thus deals 1d6 points of damage and a Medium heavy shield deals 1d8 points of damage). The shield acts as a +1 weapon when used to bash. (Only light and heavy shields can have this ability.)
Moderate transmutation; CL 8th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, bull’s strength; Price +1 bonus.

Going by this I'd say a Heavy Shield of Bashing +1, Shocking +1 (or whatever you want to call it) would give you an ac of 3 (2 shield, 1 shield enhancement), do 1d8 + 1 bludgeoning damage and 1d6 electrical damage and give +1 to hit. It would be a +1 weapon. The +1 granted from bashing wouldn't stack with the +1 for enchanting it as a weapon. For proficiency purposes its a martial weapon, for penalties for two weapon fighting, its considered a 1 handed weapon (not light, so -4/-4 instead of -2/-2 assuming you have TWF feat)

The cost for enchanting would be 4000 (+2 armour) + 8000 (+2 weapon) = 12000 gp.

I agree with everything Diirk's said.

Also note that you'll likely have to pay 450 gp in masterwork fees - 150 for shield enhancements, and 300 for weapon enhancements.

And the procedure is identical if Spikes are used. You don't do anything to the spikes separately - spikes added to a shield make a spiked shield. You add shield enhancements and abilities to the spiked shield, and you add weapon enhancements and abilities to the spiked shield; not to the shield and to the spikes separately.
