D&D 4E The 4E Rogue...love it or hate it?

How do you like the 4E rogue?

  • I do not like it.

I didn't vote for lack of a "neutral" option.

While I didn't hate it, I'm disappointed at how little it resembles the Star Wars Saga class structure.

In a way, same here. I mean, I would've been if I cared at all.

In other words, I was open to the idea of 4e wowing me (but not WoWing me) enough that I simply had to buy the thing. That is, until the data started coming out. . .

In retrospect, I think 4e would have to've been something rather more Saga-like in some ways (so, like Fantasy Concepts or Sword & Sorcery Saga, but on crack) for me to jump on it and be generally pleased that I had.

d20 Modern sure did set the stage, back when - feats and talents is a pretty damn neat and elegant approach to 'roles' or what have you, when you get right down to it. And there have been some class acts to follow in its footsteps, for sure.

Oh well. Lots of options out there. :)

Any chance we could get a med response? I don't love it but I don't hate either.

I thought about it, but in the end I decided against the "on the fence" option. If you aren't sure about it, vote the direction you are leaning, or come back later.

I was a little disappointed that there was no mention of talent trees, which means that every rogue will have pretty much the same class features (although not necessarily the same powers).

To date I've seen not a hint of evidence that talent trees will be in as a specific thing.

In fact I'm sure that the hints so far have been that class features == powers, and it is likely that on alternate levels PCs will pick up feats and powers.

Cheers

... or a 'we need to see more powers and the things that every PC gets regardless of class first'. Right now I'm thinking worst case is 'meh; different from the 3.x rogue but not a lot better outside of the generic 4e-isms that I like' and could be pretty good.

Ditto. Though I suspect that's a bit marketing driven (sigh). We'll never see another WotC core class for SWSE (heck, I've proposed house rules for getting rid of one), whereas it seems likely that a lot of new core classes for D&D are coming.

I suspect you're right on the money there.

Even 3e looks comparitively wide open. . . hell, vaguely toolkit-ish! Side by side, anyhow.
