The Big 2005 Baseball Thread (Huzzah!)

Well, the Cubs just wrapped up their pre-season with a victory. They were 15-17 during that time and a couple of pitching problems have cropped up. Nevertheless, it's off to meet the Diamondbacks on Monday to kick things off for 2005.

Who is your team and how do they look this year?

Well, your Cubs got their victory over my Mariners. I think the M's offense will be better, but their pitching has too many question marks right now so I think .500 is a reasonable goal for them right now.

I still follow the Indians -- they're the only Cleveland pro team that's still at the top of my fandom chart, and think they'll surprise a few people and win their division this year. They'll certainly score a lot of runs, which is just good Indians baseball (all of the good Indians teams since 1994 have lived on great hitting).

And the longer Bonds is out, the better the odds are that the locals (the Padres) will win their division. Without him, the Giants aren't good enough, and the D'backs, Rockies, and Dodgers certainly aren't.

Still, you've got to think it'll be the Red Sox, Yankees, or Angels coming out of the AL and the Braves or Cardinals from the NL.

Opening day and the Cubs are up 7 to 2 going into the 4th. Zambrano is looking pretty good, pitching-wise, but could use some work on his fielding. It *is* a home run hitter's park (second highest elevation after Coors Field) so you can never really bring enough offense to feel safely ahead.

:) Cubs Win! :)

Runs 16 to 6, hits 23 to 12, one error for the D-Backs...

Maddox pitches tomorrow night.

Since the Reds actually have some pitching this year they could very well be competitive, they just need to keep Kearns & Jr. healthy (good luck with that!).

Speaking of which former Red Dimiti Young had a monster day for Detroit!

Cubs fans....hehehe

Heh, nice to see the Cubs repeat their antics of last year so soon, with Zambrano getting kicked out of the game.

I think Arizona will be lucky to win 50 games this year.

Reds 7 Mets 6

"And this one belongs to the Reds!"

Opening Day in Cincinnati is like nowhere else. It is a holiday. The Findlay Market Parade, everbody taking off work. I didn't get to Cincy this year, but I did watch the game at home.

What a game! Pedro makes one mistake and Dunn puts it deep in the right field seats. (We'll ignore that Pedro went on to strike out 12). Then Dunn and newbie Red Joe Randa end the game on back-to-back home runs! Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot!!!!!!

Cardinals, Cubs and Astros better pay attention to the Queen City boys!

If you couldn't tell my team is the Reds and they should stay competitive past the All-Star break this year with some added depth to the pitching staff.
