The biggest (and coolest) miniature ever!!!

The problem for me with regard to a "mini" like this is that I could expect to use it, at best, once or twice in a campaign spanning years. So it's more of a show piece. I just can't drop that sort of money on a fig I'm not going to use, especially when I found a decent-looking plastic dragon that will serve perfectly well for a colossal mini at Toys'R'Us for six bucks.

Uhhh. I hate to be the Negative Nelly here, but that's just dumb. Why would anyone need a dragon miniature that's two feet tall? I could just tell my dog to sit on the battlemat during a game and get the same effect. He'd probably be far less likely to topple over besides.

That being said, I have been on the market for a new and unique lawn ornament lately and I was thinking about trying to get some sort of a dragon . . .

A garden gnome's familiar!

My Experience with Ego's

Well, to respond to Frank and JVisgaitis, I can only show what happened to me. I think Ego's has some nice sculpts, I just can't hand money over to people who operate like this...

(obviously, I am gospog on those boards as well)

You may feel it's sour grapes on my part, of course. But the whole thing left a permanant bad taste in my mouth.

So, while they hire amazing sculptors like Sandra Garrity and Gene Van Horne, they will never get another penny from me.

I can understand where you are coming from, but they are running a business. We had a similar contest for monster designs a long time ago and regrettably we had to do the same thing. If the work wasn't up to the set standards it happens.

I feel for you though. I've designed logos for contests that were head and shoulders better then anything there and I've had people do the same thing to me because it didn't "fit their vision." These were contests that had NO winner. It sucks, but I certainly don't think its a reason to boycott a company's line.

To put it another way, if you became a well accomplished sculpting and they offered you a position, would you turn it down over this?

Wow! just wow! I cannot believe they changed the rules like that. I wonder if people would defend WOTC/TSR if they changed the rules for the setting search after receiving the submissions? I cannot cut them any slack on this.

I'll be honest - I probably would not have purchased the big dragon. But, I do buy huge limited edition miniatures. For example I laid down $250 for a Rackham Tarascus not too long ago. I tend to think I am the target audience of such large limited edition projects. It's safe to say I understand Gospog's anger and I won't be buying ME stuff any time soon.

This Torchbearer miniature is kinda cool, but I still have to find a battlemat for it.
