The Bimonthly Polyhedron Minigame Speculation Thread

Well, the upcoming issue is more pulp goodness [including the Pulp Heroes d20 Modern remix]...and thereafter, the sweet anticipation of a new minigame.

Lessee...recently we've had gritty WWII combat, mystery-solving rock-n-roll cartoons, and planetary adventure. Oh, and the Lich Queen, which was groovy.

Soooo...I wonder what's next.

Having just seen "Pirates of the Caribbean" and read "Scaramouche," I wouldn't mind something swashbuckley. Maybe a historical game, maybe a fantasy world with more of a Napoleonic or Victorian feel, but plenty of duels, intrigue, and high adventure.

At the risk of treading upon Spycraft's toes...if I were running things, I'd do a retro spy game in the swinging sixties. Bond, M:I, and Nick Fury. And I'd call it "Top Secret."

On the subject of period pieces...a seventies kung-fu/blaxploitation game would be interesting, but unlikely. One seventies game in Poly is probably enough. Watch the original "Shaft", buy a copy of "Blood and Fists", and put on some J.B.s.

There was a fun article for Alternity a few years back discussing the classic fifties sci-fi monsters. That might be fun. But since we just had an old-school sci-fi game, also unlikely.

Rumors of Dark Matter d20 have been floated from time to time...and one occasionally hears whispers about a ninja game. And Bruce Baugh has mentioned that he would dig writing a "New Wave Heroes" game, a la Buckaroo Banzai.

Hmmm...

I thought the next Polyhedron was going to be more ILJ? Did I miss something? I hope not.

I'd still like to see the "Giant Monsters Ate Tokyo" sort of thing where the PCs are the monsters. Silly and Fun.

The next issue will be a mostly Dungeon issue but the poly side will have alot of ILJ stuff

this thread is for specuation of the one after that i presume

While the mini-games can be fun, I would prefer to see more support for the games that already exist. Why not publish adventures for D20 Modern, star war, WoT, and some of the other games that have been presented. Love the magazine, but some of the mini-games (like the scooby doo, jossie and the pussy cats crossover) are really pushing the limit of sanity. Speaking of sanity, I loved the Call of Cthultu adventure that they published a few months back...How about some more.

You're going to have to start changing the name of these threads to the "tri-monthly" or "quarterly" mini-game speculation threads, because we're cutting back a little on mini-games this year. Expect four, rather than six, which frees up some pages to support existing mini-games as well as stuff like Star Wars, d20 Modern, Call of Cthulhu, and Living Greyhawk.

The next Mini-Game will appear in issue #105.

What will it be?

Think of a popular science fiction movie from the early 80s that's gained more and more popularity in recent years. Now think of a cultural phenomenon that started at about the same time, and mix it with my favorite Arnold Schwartzenegger movie, and you've got a pretty good idea of the type of game we've got cooking.

I'd give you more info, but it's early going, yet, and that would be telling. :)
