Cool. I'll work on the character tonight, and see what I can come up with. Might be tomorrow before I'm finished however.

I changed up the formatting a bit for some clarifications. Thanks for catching the skill point descrepancy. Don't know what I was thinking there. I believe I've got it worked out now.

Also, could you specify which skill he enhanced at 4th level? If it's CON or INT, then you need to know it's not retroactive, so you'd need to incorporate that into your HP or skills points.

The enhanced 4th level ability is CON. Is it a house rule about the hit points not changing per hit die with a CON increase, because the way I read it (CoC sourcebook page 8, Constitution), it says it does. Just wondering, because I didn't see it in your list of house rules above. If it is a house rule, then if it's ok with you I'll switch the original 13 CON score with the 14 STR score (making STR 13, CON 14) and add the bonus to STR insead. That pretty much puts it exactly like it is, but it'll flow with your rules as well.

Also, there are a few (actually quite a lot) of things missing with his personality: his age, height, weight, hair, eyes, birthplace, nationality, residence, religion, and any degrees from universities. I know this is a lot (I'm probably pushing you too hard, since you barely got the book), so I'll wait until you have it all. Thanks for putting such effort and creativity into you character! For someone who's never made one for CoC before, it's surprisingly well done.

PMF

Thanks. His age and hair are in the background (at the bottom), but the rest I'll have to get to later. I wanted to ask you about weapons and other equipment. With his background, I can't really see any justification in giving him a weapons feat. However, being that I've never played CoC before, I was wondering just how much that would effect gameplay. Seems that a handgun wouldn't do all that much damage to some of the bad guys here anyway, outside of just pissing them off. Your call though; if it matters (other than negating the -4 penalty), then I'll change out endurance with a handgun proficiency.

IG, the hit dice wouldn't increase, but the bonus applied by your CON modifier would.

For example, this would be you character's HP advancement:

1st level HP: 7 (6 + CON modifier) or (6 + 1)
2nd level HP: 12 (7 + 4 + CON) or (7 + 4 + 1)
3rd level HP: 17 (12 + 4 + CON) or (12 + 4 + 1)
Now when you reach fourth level, you increase you CON, which raises the modifier to +2.
4th level HP: 23 (17 + 4 + CON) or (17 + 4 + 2)
5th level HP: 29 (23 + 4 + CON) or (23 + 4 + 2)

So, because your CON only increased at 4th level and not before, the extra point it adds to your modifier is only added for fourth and fifth level HPs. Thus, you have a total of 29 HP. BTW, great character changes. :)

You don't have to change Endurance if you don't wish to. Honestly, guns and weapons aren't of much use in CoC. Sure, they deal some damage, but they aren't always the best combat tools. They are important, but it isn't essential that every character has an arsenal in their trunk.

It's up to you if you want to change your feats. However, I recommend you leave them as they are, since there will be other party members that will be very good with weapons.

Steve, that's great, I'll be awaiting your character.

IG, I still need a profession (I'm guessing antiquarian or archaeologist, but I need to be sure), a birthplace, nationality, residence, religion, and degrees. Thanks.

Yes, he's an archaeologist, albeit a retired (or at least semi-retired) one, as mentioned in the first line of his background.

The other stuff you needed has been added to his sheet in a seperate section conveniently labeled "other stuff". ;) Hope it helps... let me know if there is anything else.

IG, it looks like your character's all set. Steve, we're waiting on your PC (hopefully, he'll be done soon), and on anyone else ho would like to join. There are still two more spaces that need to be filled, although I'd prefer 4 more players. Thanks. :)

Simon Varga
5th Level Missionary.
I will post again when the character is complete. Just wanted to see if I knew how to post a link to the stats on Invisible Castle.

Steve

Here is a little background. Let me know if this works, because much of the character design will depend upon approval.

Simon was born in Hungary, very close to the border with Romania. He dosen't remember this however as his family moved to New York, when he was barely two years old. He does remember growing up as an immigrants son in NYC however. It was not easy, but it made him tough, and in the mixed neighborhood of The City, he wasn't alone in being an "outsider". His father worked two jobs, unloading ships in the harbor by day, then moonlighting as a security guard at a branch of the New York Public Library at night. Though his father didn't have much time to spend with him, he did bring him books, which were his salvation as a child. His mother took care of him and his two older sisters, and younger brother and volunteered at the church. As a matter of fact she became preoccupied with helping out at the church and used to drag her children along with her. Simon learned to dread these daily trips to the church, but at least he had his books with him to help fight the boredom. His best friend was a young girl from Saudi Arabia, and by the time he was 9 years old they had taught each other their native languages.

Then disaster struck. While visiting friends on the other side of town Simons parents were beset by thugs and killed. His oldest sister was only 15 and there were no other relatives in the City to take care of the kids. His eldest sister was able to move in with a friend to complete high school, and his 12 year old sister went to live with their Aunt in Austria. Simon and his little brother Petyr were sent to live with their Grandparents in a spooky old mansion in the Hungarian mountains. Petyr was never quite right after the brutal murder, and tended to fits of violence, and destruction. Simon to avoid dealing with this became morose and a loner. Till he discovered the library. On an upper floor of one of the old houses towers he discovered an unused room full of vast volumes of leather bound tomes. He began to spend all his time here and he completed his self education. Then he discovered the map. Tucked in the spine of a book with the title "Eltdown Shards" was a map of the mansion, which showed a secret room in the basement. Simon couldn't get this off his mind, and a few weeks later he carrying the copy of the book decended to the location and peaked into this secret room. What he saw there he dosen't remember. His uncle claims to have found him naked in the yard screaming and clawing at his eyes. After a couple of years in a Sanatarium he was sent to a remote Monestary in Yugoslavia. There he reassembled his santiy and took refuge in Christianity.

He couldn't remember what happened that night, but now all was well. In fact his talents in history, occult study, and limited psychic powers brought him to the attention of certain members of the Church. He was recruited to help investigate "Strange occurences" and report back to his particular sect of the Church. Now they have sent him to Washington DC, and here he awaits further instruction.

Steve, your character is rich with imagination and creativity. However, there are a few faults. First of all, to which religion does he belong? Judging from his clothes and the fact that a cardinal blessed his crucifix, he is a Catholic priest (he could also be Anglican, but both religions are basically the same, and they share the same views presented later on).

If he is Catholic (or Anglican), then this clashes with a few other things:

1. Since the Council of Elvira in 306 A.D., the Catholic Church has forbidden the use of any magical, psychic, or occult powers. This would include sensitivity or psychometry. The Eastern Council in Trullo (692 A.D.) stated that sorcery (which included psychic abilities) was a crime to be “visited with excommunication”.

2. The Catholic Church frowns on armed combat, and strictly forbids any of its clergy members to carry a weapon or engage in armed combat.

3. Occult research would be much more difficult as a priest. However, you could specialize in a specific field, such as Demonology or Satanism. This way, you could be a specialist focusing on weird cults or religions and could help the Church fight them. :)
