A recurring comment I've noticed -- and in fact one I made myself early on -- was a certain similarity of feel between Eberron and Star Wars. I first noticed it when I saw a picture of Sharn and thought, "Hey, it's Coruscant. Funky."
Well, that observation had been percolating in my head for some time, and when I decided to start a new Star Wars campaign, it jumped out at me. I was pondering on the nature of the campaign's BBEG, and had by a coincidence picked up a "Deathknell" booster pack that had in it "Warforged Wizard" and thought, "Hey, he'd make a pretty cool villain..."
Suddenly I have my campaign premise: on some frontier world, the Empire has started taking bodies of the slain (from either side of the conflict) and raised them, using a combination of cybernetics and ancient Sith dark Force powers, creating an army of revenants that are smarter and more capable than droids, but far more durable than clone troopers. Their name? The warforged, of course!
So last night I went out and picked up the ECS, and am having all sorts of fun plotting what to do with the campaign. In the process, I've also become a lot more interested in Eberron as a D&D setting, in some future game, whereas previously I've been more or less indifferent to it (although I liked "Fallen Angel"). It does take a little getting used to for an old Greyhawker like myself, but once you start looking at what it is, rather than what it isn't, there's a lot to like there.
Just thought I'd share.
